I am 95% done with this sleeper, just waiting for the car name decals to come in the mail. It's a 1938 17 roomette 1 section sleeper that was used in both pool service and on the Super Chief. Metal sides on an American Limited core kit. The car name will be either Tonto or Otowi. I didn't have all the correct size grab irons either, so those will need to be added later.

Nate,
I am working on one of those as well, and a couple of the 8-2-2 cars.  Wondering where you found the info for the roof detail, especially the ends.  I paged through the Santa Fe sleeper book, but could not find a good shot of the cars taken from a high angle (did I miss one and/or another resource for a photo or diagram?).
Tom D.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

Lemosteam:  Thank you!  That's two sites, both in England.  I guess nobody in the US sells metric brass.

I have done business with UK or EU sites, but for what I need, I'm afraid the shipping and fees would be far more than the cost of the brass.

@OldEastRR -

I'm glad someone is working on a kitbash for that car type, as it will increase the probability of a manufacturer releasing one.

I have some similar cars on my kitbash list (several Midwest roads had mail-baggage cars with 2 doors in similar pattern, with 2 or 3 window RPO section).  Wondering what you are using for the RPO doors and windows.

Thanks,
Tom D

I'm just cutting openings for the RPO doors and windows -- easy enough to make an RPO door out of styrene and I can add a mail hook from a KATO detail set. The windows are way smaller than any I've seen on any other model, so I'm going to drill/file them out and fab up some windows sashes;  pieces of styrene stock. Don't know about the outside bars, tho --- haven't a clue on what to use.
Highly doubt anybody will make an NKP version - this was the only car like this. The WOT car used for the kitbash is based on C&O prototype and I don't know if a C&O RPO-Baggage style can be used for other roads.
As an aside, the MTL 70" Mail-Baggage is really close to an NKP version, other than a few minor details.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing this completed. I’m no where near that level of craftsmanship at kitbashing a car like that. I have goofed around with a ROWA to get a bedroom-diner-lounge done in NKP. Are you thinking about making a resin copy of the body and roof when you’re done?

Since I don't model PRR anymore, and Rapido is making a lot of NH passenger cars,  I have no homeroad passenger car kitbashes. Thus I find myself kitbashing cars for a friend who models an obscure RR called the NKP -- cars no other railroad used, and only a few existed of each. This is a baggage car:

Lots of work yet to do; plus the NKP had hugely deep letterboards, so I'll need to add those to the finished project. Had to cut up two WOT cars to make this one.

While not railroad related, I had quite an adventure last Saturday.  If interested, I did a write-up in the Crew Lounge. See: https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=47357

Tom - I had the same issue (and used the same book you referenced).  I just guessed and went off what the Kato cars looked like.  Biggest issues is that the roof is smooth on the core kit which is not correct (at least I don't think it is).

Anytime I see an arrow on the road/pavement, I instantly think of Mario Kart.

Is there a way I can get that image imbedded at all the runway thresholds in my flight simulator program as something to line up on and aim for?
