Has to be a cross. I found I could make one out an etched-metal handrail. First it's suitably sized and second being brass means it's sorta gold colored. Very tiny detail but obvious once it's placed -- your eye is automatically drawn up to the top of the spire so it gets noticed.

Don't forget the pigeon sitting on one side of the cross! :ashat:

Holy cow; the level of detail on those is on par with O scale stuff...fantastic!

LOL!
With highly detailed N scale models we say that they look like H0 models, So I guess the same (up one scale) applies to H0?   :)

With a line up of locos on the shelf waiting to be finished (mainly just waiting to be painted) I started on GMTX 3304, a SD40-2 rebuilt to a SD38-2.

Prototype:

I think I saw that unit in The Dalles, Oregon a few months ago. I was traveling home from a meeting and stopped for gas, and I spied it in the yard behind the convenience store.

the level of detail on those is on par with O scale stuff

Probably better.  The detail level on Atlas O is relatively coarse (and tinplate is all the more so.).  Their newer offerings have gotten better tho.

This was one of the reasons for my conversion to HO two years ago.  I'm not bashing on N scale, and I really don't want to start a scale war.  N scale was good to me, and I really enjoyed modeling in that scale for probably fifteen years.  But, it was time to move on to bigger (pun intended!) and better things, which now allows me to dabble in DCC and sound.  That said, we still have my daughter's N scale layout, and I started a T-Trak module in N scale.

Agreed.

I guess what I meant was Dave's model shows the same level of detail you might see on an O scale model that had gotten similar improvements...In any case, it is beautiful work!   :)

OK, so HO is the new O Scale...

N is the new HO Scale...

thus T must be the new N Scale...

and so I suppose I should be 40 years old!

And all this time I thought you were comparing level of detail on Dave's H0 model to the O scale (Proto:48) Geep by Ed.  :)

I had considered that...  :)

As has been said (probably here) before: "good modeling is good modeling, regardless of scale".

... the O scale (Proto:48) Geep by Ed.  :)

But that's an RC shell, not Atlas O  ;)

Well, Mark didn't specifically state "Atlas O", but just "O" generically, and the HO locos he was comparing to O were Athearn.  :)

Pretty Cool layout at Bearizona in Williams. BTW Ed is talking me into modeling the GCRW.

Thanks Peteski, that is what I meant.  :)

It's my understanding that Atlas bought the dies to the Red Caboose line, so if you were to purchase an Atlas O scale Geep today, the body would be of Red Caboose lineage.

The big difference is that the drive train is now along the lines of the Lionel type: that is, each truck is powered with a vertically-mounted can motor with spur-gear drive, as opposed to a centrally located motor with drive shafts to each truck...

I’m calling the HH660 done.
I’ll try to post a video demonstrating the running characteristics and how it sounds over the weekend.
