Great news for a good friend from Chicago area!

His only concern is that Kato got the C&NW colors wrong on recent releases - he hopes they'll get it right this time.

Interesting choice, this are intercity bi-level, Amtrak got this cars in 72 and retire them in th early 90’s. They ran with the pooches

Does this mean that Kato could reissue them in Amtrak paint? THOSE I would buy for sure.

On a side note: Kato could make the C&NW coach that was later sold to CBQ and GN (BSB).

So I'm getting confused by the cars they are making.  It looks like 4 new cars but the web site says three. And going by the numbers, car 903 is a one-off snack car that was converted in 1970 and car 6400 was a parlor converted to a coach in 1967.

So did these two cars not exist together?

So I'm getting confused by the cars they are making.  It looks like 4 new cars but the web site says three.
Facebook pages says "5 newly-tooled C&NW Pullman Bi-Level cars".

Cars in the C&NW set are:
Pullman Bi-Level Coach-Buffet C&NW #903
Pullman Bi-Level 4-Window Coach C&NW #700; Pullman Bi-Level 4-Window Coach C&NW #705
Pullman Bi-Level Coach-Parlor Car C&NW #6400
Pullman Bi-Level Cab-Coach C&NW #154
So that's 4 body styles.

There's also going to be a simultaneous Metra roadame release of 3 cars:
Pullman Bi-Level 4-Window Coach Chicago Metra #7836; Pullman Bi-Level 4-Window Coach Chicago Metra #7848
Pullman Bi-Level Cab-Coach Chicago Metra #8570

I'd speculate that the Metra Cab-Coach would have separate tooling from C&NW version, but that the 4-Window Coach might be the same for both roads.

The new red and white Metra bi-levels were REALLY easy to miss on the bi-level page all the way down at the bottom. Can't wait for photos and for a second run so we can get to a typical length commuter train.

Upon closer inspection the photo at the top is of the later paint scheme for the Pullman bi-levels that started in the late 90s? I'm hoping they do the white/red/brown scheme.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth, but yeah, this set seems to have a bit of an identity crisis. Is it a “400”? Is it a commuter train?

6400 and 903 were both built for the Peninsula 400 in 10/57, if that helps.

Hoping for some a la carte follow-up releases. A commuter E with the later mods will be a DIY project. And the more common F7s are a must. I still have some nose bells around here somewhere...

Yeah when I saw "400" passenger train.. I thought.. Cool CNW 'named' train!!.. Then I open the flyer and see a commuter train.. ??

Still cool. But not what I think when I hear 'Route of the 400s'

So is this the announcement you said Kato would bring up at the NSE convention and then it got moved up? Or is there going to be another announcement at NSE convention as well?

Metra 8570 is a Nippon-Sharyo car built for Metra, not a Pullman car built for CNW or RI.

The cab-car is appropriate for a commuter train, the rest is appropriate for a 400.

CNW leased a few of the F7's to Amtrak (4072C, 4075C, 4088A) which would allow them to run with cars that Amtrak had repainted in Phase I paint
