North West Short Line...

After re-reading the thread about the diesel O scale P:48 conversion, I got to thinking about my own Red Caboose GP9, and thought I'd give it some running time, as it had been a while.

It ran less than "great", so I gave it a good cleaning and re-lube: it was at this time I discovered that (2) of the axle gears had split; a not uncommon occurrence with this models, which was an Atlas/Roco hybrid.

I have fixed this problem in some of my '70s-vintage Atlas F9s with drop-in replacements from NWSL, but since they are closing up shop, I wasn't sure they would be an option. I emailed them, and within an hour or so Dave got back to me, saying the sets are still available, so I ordered one, and got an email confirmation. So for the time being, it seems he can still come through for us...just passing that on.

For fun, here is a picture from Ed's thread:

...and here's mine.

I just wanted to post a similar "comparison" shot.  :)

Of course, his turned out to be a fabulous work of art:  :o

Ed, I hope you don't mind my posting a couple of your photos...

Those looks good! Nice job on the Santa Fe geep.

I found the thread you were referencing. I may be embarking on a 3-rail to 2-rail conversion soon and these posts will serve as inspiration.

NWSL has been very, VERY slow on filling orders. I put one in when they announced they were closing. That was months ago and still nothing. I did send an email last month asking when it would be filled, and they just said they were backlogged.

I was really hoping to get some flywheels and universals before they close.

They are backlogged because when they announced closing, everybody and their brother started placing orders, totally swamping them!  That's what I think.

Similar situation happened to a well known resin caster Modelhaus (high quality 1:24 scale automotive resin models and parts).  They announced retirement, then orders came in like wildfire! Then they announced a cutoff date for orders, but bu that time they had a 2 year backlog!!  Yes, it took them 2 years to fill all the orders (which they did, because they are good people).
