Atlas SD-7 Universals

Good evening all,

Was looking for insight regarding the above. The subject is a "2004" Atlas (China) SD-7. One universal has split and spins on the shaft. The other  was working. However, when I went to spin the second universal, it too spun on the shaft. Turns out, both have a split in them. Looking for input regarding a "fix" for this issue. There is a thread regarding this (in January of 2018), but it involves the Atlas Alco C628/630 which is a different set up. Thanks in advance!

Are those the ones which look like donuts with 2 posts on the opposite sides?  Atlas should still sell replacements.
I fixed few of those for a friend. When I got the new parts from Atlas, before I installed them on the motor shaft I uses sandpaper to slightly reduce motor shaft's diameter at the end of the shaft, where the universal sits.  Did that until the universals slipped onto the shaft with not much pressure.  Then I made sure the shaft and universals were clean and grease free (cleaned them both with acetone), then I super-glued them to the shaft.  Since there is no more stress on them they should not split again.

Atlas have them for the c628/630 which is the same part I believe.  These also fit the intermountain sd40-2w of 2010 vintage btw. 
Here’s the parts diagram for the  Sd9.   Same part number for male universal.

I place the new part on the shaft, then press it in with a wood chopstick. Works great.

What does that do exactly? I have hard time picturing what you are doing and why.
