I spent almost two hours yesterday just running my rebuilt Jamco, tuning the mechanism, testing it... this is the 'in progress shot' with about 80% of the new piping installed on the cast brass boiler, got the tender through first paint.

I’m making good progress on my Alco HH660 project.
This is a similar build to what @Chris333 did several years ago.
This one is a shortened Atlas S2 with a Bachmann motor and worms. It runs and sounds good with a Loksound 73800 Select Micro and Soberton 8x12 speaker in a Shapeways by Wutter enclosure.
Next up is building the hood.

Very nice. Why the Bachmann motor/gears instead of the Atlas parts?

Good question. I had to stop and think about that one. Motor length primarily. I think the Atlas motor would have been too long after shortening the chassis. It uses flyworms which are very nice but looked difficult to remove from the motor shafts. Part of the thinking was to start with an Arnold S2 and the Bachmann motor and may have been a carry over when I changed my mind and decided to use the Atlas as a starting point.
This project may be able to be done with the stock Atlas parts I just never explored that avenue. Sometimes you just get headed down a rabbit trail and just keep going.

I rehabilitated a non-functional Atlas Shay given to me by @BruceG . I replaced the broken motor mount clips, replaced the front and rear trucks (rear would hardly roll, and I couldn't isolate the issue. The newer trucks are geared differently, so I ended up replacing both), replaced the LED's, and installed a decoder. I lettered it for the Little River Lumber Company using some custom decals I had made when I build my logging micro-layout, then weathered it and added "glass" to the window openings. Should be a good runner, now.

One more from me.  Rio Grande Southern class C-19 #40 rattles into the north end of the Rico, Colorado yard in September, 1942.  The Rico-Argentine Pro Patria mill looms over the train and will soon receive three empty 3000-series boxcars for ore concentrate loading.

After two years in the WV Eastern panhandle I finally made it to the Martinsburg roundhouse on Saturday.  A beautiful day, if a bit windy.  Very interesting tour.  So much potential at this site.  So much money required to make it happen.

If you're not familiar with the area, the roundhouse is one block from downtown Martinsburg,  When I arrived two years ago the most numerous business in downtown was tattoo parlors.  Not that I have anything against tattoo parlors, but main street is looking up, with some new businesses and restaurants.

There is a chocolate shop that makes the product on site.  We also stopped at Everything Cheesecake.  Unfortunately the cheesecake did not survive long enough to make the photo shoot.

Have a great week.

Added the marker lights to the EP-3 body, and now pre-painting construction really is complete. Found yet another issue with the mechanism while finalizing the headlight circuitry, the mechanism shorts when slightly squeezed in the middle. The body shell is a snug fit, which squeezes the frame enough to cause the short.  So no primer painting of the body until it’s definite no modifications are needed.

Bryan,
I'm sure we will see this in Chicago this June?  ;)

I have a something to share finally.  I've been working on a scenery diorama for next week's RMMBC meet.  Here's a quick grab of the progress:

Many details to add still, including a handful of live oaks, but I'm happy to have exercised the grass master once again, after  several years of dormancy.

That's the plan.  Model contest first, then a couple of loops around the convention layout.

Nice grasslands Gary!

I am yet one more TRW member getting his layout ready for the Railway Modellers Meet of BC. http://railwaymodellersmeetofbc.ca/

I was cleaning track at Farron summit and got this interesting shot with my 'droid.

Have a great week!
