Wow Otto your RR is coming along really nicely.
Your images bring back very fond memories when together with 3 others from down under we drove that part of route 66 back in the late 90's, stopped and sat on that cobbled wall and just watched the SF roll by.
We then had a fantastic hamburger for lunch in that small shop at Devore.

All the best.
Rod.

Ah yes Rod, memories. Joe’s Country Corner, where a parking space sign proclaimed “if you’re not handicapped when you park here, you may be by the time you leave”. Joe was a character, his place had a wooden pole to tie your horses to on the side, celebrity and train pictures on the walls, and a scary men’s room out back. But the food was great.
I stopped countless times there, and consumed many a burger and beer there. Now it’s buried under the huge embankment...
All the best to you, too, mate...
Otto

I went for a more scenic, less crowded spot.
It was perfect until these two clowns showed up at the last minute :

Well, it may look boring with no colors, but the plastering crews (and bridge gang) have moved from upper Devore through Keenbrook and Blue Cut to lower Cajon, about 32 linear feet of track. Being stuck at home is actually very productive, but thank god for this hobby right now...

Thanks guys, appreciated!
After some days of messy plastering up Cajon Pass, I needed a “change of scenery”, so I went back into Los Angeles to add some Pacific Electric “Red Car” flavor to my Aliso Street viaduct...Aliso was the main drag out of the city eastward for both cars and public transit. At four to five feet from the viewer, these look pretty good for now I think...

This is starting to remind me of the Franklin and South Manchester.

Those mocked-up Big Red Cars somehow make me think of Roger Rabbit.

Hey, I resemble that remark. My “cars” are more prototypical than Hollywood’s, at least they are the real thing. But I did cheat. Recently a nice photo popped up on Facebook taken from up high, with the perspective almost correct for my Aliso Street bridge. So I figured if buildings can be faked with “flats”, why not Red Cars? I printed them in slightly different sizes for perspective and placed them carefully behind buildings; the third one is flipped, an easy job in Photoshop.
Original pic below, note, a single car, sorry don’t know the photographer.

By the way, I didn't mean your cars are cartoonish - anything but.  I think that using a flat is a very clever idea, and really no different than using flats for buildings.

And Who Framed Roger Rabbit is one of my favorite movies, fake Big Red Cars and all.

Jim, Scott, thank you.
George, absolutely no offense taken, it’s all in good fun. But I do appreciate your kind words.
And I did enjoy that movie as well...and actually anything set in that era in Los Angeles.
Fun stuff,
Otto
