Looking good Otto!
Feeling guilty that my 3 Peco turntables work for me right out of the box, with just some messing around with the pits.....

Could you and them down on the inside face to reduce the thickness yet retain the detail?

Yes, was looking at that. I’d just need to make sure they are all consistent, as there’s a bunch of them and even then, the reduction would be minimal. Oh well...
Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you have access to an end mill? You could always make a sanding jig or even use the mill to get them perfect. Id offer up my mill but it's a little far away from you lol

Well, I got the “pit” mostly done. Didn’t like the Heljan contours, details and half round “dimples”... what was that all about? Mine needs a cracked concrete floor and a concentric drainage swale, so I covered the bottom with Drydex spackle (love the stuff, goes on pink, dries white). Waiting for  parts to finish the turntable truss bridge. This has been fun, I just hope I can make it work properly....

Pics from the underworld...
Today, the AR-1 autoreverser for the turntable finally arrived, so I was able to finish the wiring. Pics below of the hi tech/low tech underside of the pit...the AR controls the bridge track “polarity” (purple wires), while the old NCE loco decoder will control the speed and direction of the turntable movement. I’ll use a local “engineer cab” to operate the turntable (assigned loco #1 address since I’ll never have a loco numbered 1). The same cab can be used to bring power on and off the table, or to do local switching. I suppose it could be used to turn on lights or play a soundtrack, but that’s in the future.
The low tech but very useful 1x3’s hold everything in place... :D
Fun stuff,
Otto

And a boring view from the top...showing the pit and the bearing.

A bit more (slow) progress on the turntable. The pit is mostly done, the table is getting there (although it seems to have more gusset plates and rivets that the Eiffel Tower). The mech is assembly is ready, I hope. More when we get back from our Eastern Sierra/Furnace Creek road trip, utilizing safe social distancing practices of course. (How hard should that be, in Death Valley?).
TBC, I sure...

A lovely 3’ gauge Baldwin consolidation in Death Valley. Who knew?

Well, we’re back from our road trip and “we” are getting ready to get started on the turntable again...
Which made me realize I won’t be needing the Walthers DCC Turntable I bought but never used about 10 years ago. I figured I’ll put it up for sale here first, see trading post.

Hmmm, installing the Code 40 ring rail nice and parallel to the pit wall was a bit of a bear.
Used thin ACC to glue it down; I hope it holds 😬
It’s a slow slog, I *think* I’m winning... maybe...
