Newport & Rock Falls: Another Retro Micro-Layout

I was thinking channel marker buoys.  Channel marker buoys and their lights are, in fact, red and green with green to starboard departing a harbor.

I concur.  I learned it exactly the same way: "Red, Right, Return."  Of course, being red-green colorblind, I tend to beach most of my boats.

Ah.  So what's been tripping me up is that typically under a bridge like that the channel will also be marked with appropriately colored and arranged buoys.

EDIT:  In shallows and close quarters like this the channel may be marked using lights and colors on pilings rather than on tethered buoys.

26 February 2021. Carried on with kitbuilding: finished the houses under construction and the scale house.





And I've installed the yard buildings I finished yesterday, along with the yard light.



In other news, I began roughing out the propane dealer.



Plus, I started detailing the property around the factory.



And finally, I'm fitting the rolling lift bridge mechanism with switches to control its movement: press a pushbutton briefly, and the bridge will raise or lower and then stop, unattended. The switches will also control navigation signals installed on the bridge itself.

Oh, and here's a reference image I've been using of a nearly-identical bridge crossing the Shark River in Belmar, NJ.

27 February 2021. Finished the tool shed.



But I gave myself two other new projects. After living with the Arnold Rapido switch tower for about a week, I tore it out. It just wasn't right.



I replaced it with the little Kibri tower that was originally chosen for the job but reassigned as the control cabin for the rolling lift bridge.



Then, just for giggles, I plopped the Arnold tower next to the bridge and, despite being much too large for the job, it perfectly fit aesthetically.

I also received the kit for Rock Falls passenger station, and while it looks like a modest whistle stop, it's actually slightly too big for the space. I also didn't like how the kit was made: all of the brickwork was (crudely) printed on self-adhesive paper. So the hunt is on for a new kit, although I may need to bash something given the paucity of retro whistle stop stations.

28 February 2021. Today the switch tower got installed in its forever home, looking as though that's where it's belonged all along.



Finished and installed the water crane.



Also installed and wired the three signals. From left to right: in front of the Newport passenger station; under the plate girder bridges; and beside the Rock Falls passenger station.



Plus, I started installing crossing flashers.



And finally, I finished the electrical controls for the rolling lift bridge. There are two roller micro-switches: one controls the drive motor, and the other changes the bridge signal.
