The River Point Station web site now lists the N scale models!

Comment on the home page tab - "Wholesale only. For retail purchases, please visit your local hobby store or contact one of our dealers."  There is a link to the dealers.

I was amused by all the warnings about opening packaging and not getting a refund, and about being very careful not to damage all the delicate parts.  Seemed a bit excessive to me.  We are N scalers after all (not ham-fisted H0-ers)!    We're used to deal with small fragile items.  :D

After reading all those warnings I also expected to be able to order the models directly from their website (especially after reading the warnings about returning the models for a refund).

But whatever, these are really nice looking models of an American prototype vehicle, never previously offered for sale in N scale.

I'm looking at the BN ones, however the orange trucks in BN's vehicle fleet all had hirail wheels. I emailed and asked about them if they will include hi rail wheels, and this is the response I got, "In answer to your question about hi-rail gear--the trucks do not include the same. We tried to mold parts similarly to those in our HO Scale set, but the parts were too small and fragile, and any adjustments to make them producible looked horribly out of scale.

We also attempted to make a photo-etched set, but the results were just not very convincing. If there is enough demand for another run of these trucks,
we may make another attempt with a mixed-media configuration."

Maybe some third party could come up with some hirail gear we can add to these trucks.

Third-party hirail would probably be the best option, as I imagine a lot of people will want it for other vehicles.

The trucks themselves are far too modern for me, but they are nice looking.

Oh there's plenty of ham-fistedness out there in the N scale world. Trust me on this one. I've witnessed it. It isn't pretty. :scared:

But back on "track." These are good looking and I'm sitting here trying to find a reason to have the CR set on my late 70's/early 80's CR layout. Though I'm thinking CR mainly had GMC's for these types of vehicles. Looks like over the morning coffee I'll be scouring the 'net for photos. I guess I could buy more 90's vehicles and occasionally move the period of my layout up a bit once in a while. I've plenty of freight cars and locos to do that. They are reserved for running at our club and at shows but, "I'm a man, but I can change, If I have to, I guess."

Hmm, as for a potential 3rd party supplier of hi-rail equipment for these trucks, Showcase Miniatures has experience molding N scale hi-rail equipment.

Maybe Walter and Debbie would be interested in designing and producing something that would work for the RPS trucks, and of course for other light trucks as well.

Conrail seemed to go with GM as its primary supplier of MOW trucks starting in the mid 80’s.  I have a saved EBay image of a yellow Conrail Ford F series maintainer’s  truck.  It is an early 80’s variety, when Ford moved the turn signals under the headlights.  I thought that was around 1980ish.  As far as MOW goes, I am not too picky.  Since the available models are so limited, I plan on using what is available for my MOW vehicles.  Thanks.

They should be on their way from the factory at this time.  They are expected to arrive at your favorite hobby shop in September.   :D
