What people forget is that the original story was WAY better than the movie.

I never read the story, but the movie was pretty effing great!

I remember watching it as a child...my dad would come home from work at midnight and wind down watching movies on TBS. If the movie went on too late, he would tape it. I'd pop the tapes in when there wasn't anything good on to see what was on there. Duel was one of those movies that instantly drew me in as a child.

Also, keep in mind this was TBS, not USA!

I've told this story before on TRW, but recall that I have two connections to "Duel". A buddy owned the surviving movie truck for a while, I helped him work on it. After a fair bit of mechanical restorative effort it ran, and it was fun to listen to the "OMG!" over the CB as other truckers recognized it on the road. The other is I lived in the shadow of where the movie was filmed, in Soledad Canyon about 40 miles north of Los Angeles, and was quite familiar with the shoot locations. We were there last spring; L.A. has grown into the canyon to the point where it's real hard to discern the film locations, with the exception of the stone-veneer restaurant where the Dennis Weaver character made the desperate phone calls.

The source was a horror short story by Richard Matheson. But based on the critical acclaim Steven Spielberg's TV movie received, I'd say it's a stretch to claim the print version was "way better." Especially since Matheson penned the screenplay himself.

Well... I have a bunch of stuff ostensibly set on the Eastern Shore. That looks a lot like Eastern NC and VA too....

So, if you still want to scratch that RF&P itch or something else in that area, it'd fit right in.

I've also got the MA&PA thing going, and that's just a single track set into the base. It requires more critical mass before being able to participate in a show layout though since it's non-standard (without its adapters).

Eastern Shore would require the make one track out of two tracks trick, but your M&P plan shows the way for that.  This could also fold neatly into the repurposed TV armour concept.

What kind of frames are you selling?  What are they made and do you have ones that would be approximately 24" x 14"?  I think I want to build a double-length module, because there would be no way to capture the look of street running (if I model a small piece of Ashland, Virginia) on a single module (I also don't want a seam in the middle of a scene).
