Best thread of the Year?

Group:
Any thoughts of the best thread of the year?

My top two - just to get the list started - are;
1. Max's engine build - even though it started before 2018
2. Mark's engine house build

Anyone care to add to the list?

Merry Christmas to all,
Bill

DKS's house build! https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=45709.0

The MTL M1A1 thread is great too. It's included constructive feedback to a manufacturer, someone else manufacturing other things, and lots of fun models being built. https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=45583.0

All good choices, but I'll go with Max's engine, mostly because it REALLY pushed the limits of N scale.

If those were the only two choices I would go with Max with no offense to Mark.

But if I can add, what about all the hootin' nanny with the Anycubic Photon 3D printer and how it changed the entire landscape on DIY 3D printing?

Maybe the way to do this would be categories.  Structures, rolling stock, track laying, motive power, and such.  Or better yet, a Max category, Mark D, Mark W, various Chris's... :)  Nominees then finally voting.   There are too many quality pieces to try to choose just one. 8)

I suggest separating "Thread" and "Model" as categories.

Model category, Max and Mark D easily take the cake.

Thread category, the Anycubic Photon is definitely a winner.  I never expected that one to take off and spark a Railwire Army of desktop 3D printer users!
Sub category, the line side poles clinic from last weekend's update definitely needs a mention.

And yes, the MTL Tank thread is another great collaboration of modeling and information.

I think TRW is quite unique in that we're able to make these threads happen.  I rarely, if ever, see the same elsewhere.  It's the discussion and sharing of ideas and techniques, continued by follow up of results, more discussion, new ideas, and everything repeating again and again.

I suggest we skip this "best of the year" stuff.  IMO it is silly to pick the best, when there is so much win here on TRW.  I don't recall seeing best of the year picks here in the past.

The standard Best Of threads (picked as we go along, not "of a year") OTOH seem logical, since there is no single one being picked (or limited to one selection).  Usually those threads are very handy and helpful.

I think Peteski is on to something here.  Human nature is we remember what's recent so any Best Of may be skewed towards more recent threads.  Certainly my memory is no longer as good as it used to be.

Can anyone think of possible Best Of threads that were started in January or February?  :)

So that makes him wrong 99.999998% of the time? And for all we know.. that was one of the post monkeys keeping up with the APPD (average post per day)..so it may not even be Peteski who is truly correct.

I vote for the Trading post sale for Rowa passenger cars that  turned into a header meeme... 'passel'

While I agree "overt" popularity contests should be avoided (aren't "respect scores" a creeping form of that???) having seen Max's beautiful loco in person, it and its construction are beyond special...

Merry Merry everyone!  thx for all the entertainment and education this year!
