Received My Machine Today

Received my machine today and all looks good, EXCEPT... I can't get the slicer graphics to work.  The slicer seems to be working, just the graphics that don't show the part.  Hard to orient and play with supports without a view.  :|

I downloaded my first designed 3D file, ready to start sniffing resin, and it wouldn't show me squat.  I then reloaded the slicer and loaded the Photon sample cube, both from Anycube's support site, thinking it might be me.  No good.  It doesn't show either in the graphics.  That started a search and destroy mission on the internet and from the Facebook page I found reference to many laptops not having a proper video card (integral rather than separate?)  and if so, it flat won't work.  As such and if that's true, I suspect I may have that issue as this machine is an older Lenovo running Windows 7 at 32 bit.  (I made sure to load 32 bit version.)  What it DID do, apparently, is load the model file as I was able to slide the slicer button and see the identifiable part layers, both for the Photon and my 3D model.  Damn this is frustrating.

This leads to a question, will Nettfab work and what if anything specific would I need to know about that?  This is NOT my realm, computer downloads, file extensions, and such.  I also would not be against getting a new 'puter as this one has already had the hard drive and cooling fan replaced and that's intermittently getting noisy again so maybe it's time.  I hate to as it's always done everything I wanted it to do.  Maybe until now? :)

Any help would be appreciated. 8)

Congrats!

Did you install the slicer from the disk, or download from the website?  (Maybe try un-installing then re-installng the other file)
I think there's a new program either form Anycubic or a third party that also does slicing for the Photon.

There's a 1.3.6 version of the Slicer program which is newer than what was on my disk.  I'm going to see if the new version will stay in English.  :P

I did several from the supplied stick and then downloaded from the website.  Each reload was preceded by an "uninstall", just in case.  The download from the Anycubic site is the version 1.3.6.

Edit add: And each seemed to run the same, no discernible difference. :|

And my last effort was from a suggestion on the Anycubic web site that suggested another slicer and suggested that they thought it was actually the supplier of the driver and hardware to Anycubic.  I loaded it separately and it sure does look to be the same, graphics, style, and all are nearly identical.  It too acts as described and was my last official act before to start this thread.

That company and download was from ChiTu DLP Slicer.

But that other slicer needs you to log in and needs an Internet connection to work. Also I read daily on FB that people have problems with it.

It didn't need anything and was a free download.  It acted the same as the Photon downloads.

It's not my intention to use that program but was trying to narrow down the issue to which device was trouble.  Without knowing any specific reason I've pretty much narrowed it down to an issue with my computer and if I can trust what I read in the Facebook thread, it's fundamental to the graphics driver for which there is no fix.  Next, assuming it's an issue, what to get?  What I've been using has done everything I ever wanted.

I downloaded and installed it. When I opened it there was a box to sign in. So I just deleted it from my computer.

Edit: also when I went to delete it I had to hunt it all down because it didn't show up in add/remove programs. I just didn't trust it.

It may work just fine for you, just spreading what I know.

Outlier here, You may need a high end graphics card and driver?

I'm about to order my machine and have this very fear that the software won't work.  Is this thing Mac compatible??

Thanks!

There's a beta for a Mac version of the slicer software.

I think, from what I've been able to gather from the Photon blog, that my problem is just an older machine that is using an integral video driver that can't be brought up to standards for current stuff.  The driver in my machine, as I clumsily found,  is "ATI Mobility Radeon X1300" and the creation date is 1999, even though the machine isn't that old (2012?).  I checked for updated drivers for that video card and it said I'm already running the latest driver for that device.  I'm still going to try to confirm that this specific video card is insufficient but I think I already have my answer. :|  My machine's plain old outdated. :(  This isn't necessarily bad because it is older and has had some mechanical issues, first signs of some more, and is probably due for replacement.

Now I just need to confirm that anything I buy to replace this one is sufficient for the balance of my needs. I doubt I need much, suspect that even the lower cost newer machines will have a sufficient video driver by default, and don't want to buy much more than I really need. 8)  BTW, this type of work is torture for someone who isn't into computers other than the tool they are.  I use hammers too but never felt compelled to know hickory wood at the molecular level. ;)

"ATI Mobility Radeon X1300"

I think that one sucked when it was new.

The slicer program is pretty rudimentary.  Like something that would be a project in a "How to Program 3D Graphics for Dummies".  But I imagine it does require certain functionality from the drivers that your machine doesn't have because if it's age

I would expect any name brand current machine to work fine as long as the file size is within reason.

That's kinda' what I've concluded at this point.  Thanks. :)
