Yeah. When I see one, I automatically think, "Did his kid draw it for him? Oh, wait..."

Careful what you say there, David, or he'll be going to the end of the Earth to get a quality track plan from you.

Ed, one other thing to consider in the new digs is to test how many circuits you have in the room. Most rec rooms like that probably have lights and outlets all on one 15 amp circuit. If you get heavy into lighting, or just want the lights not to dim when you crank up the power tools, you might think about bringing in an electrician to install another circuit dedicated to layout use or lighting.

I say leave the drop ceiling as is. If you build the layout right, no one will be paying attention to the tiles above them, unless they trip over your dog.   :facepalm:

Looks like putting the Buick in the garage might be good for the collector car market now that GM is killing off sedans.

Well, I'm more than happy to oblige. It'll just take longer than a "minute" these days...

Yard with end loops is what KRP Models (Cory) does on his Soeberg N Scale Mojave layout. Video here:

Great line!  Goes along with my rhetorical question, "Did I mention that I hate ballasting?," that I tend to repeat ad nauseam.

I guess I'm a really odd one--I actually enjoy ballasting. With no need for beverages. Different strokes, obviously...

Probably helps when the layouts are the size of a shoe box.   :)

Haha, I was just telling @seusscaboose last night that it's getting harder to not model the MA&PA. Except for one thing... it'd be boring as frig operationall!

It only needs to be boring if you choose to do it that way.  This from a guy who came up with a very plausible reason to triple the traffic on the NCRR...

Let's say you model the 40s.  You can have a north and south passenger train (the common single baggage/RPO and single coach consist), milk traffic, a north and a south peddler, and maybe even a little bridge traffic if, say, Pennsy was having trouble next door on the NCRR.  If you model the wartime you know traffic was heavy all over.

All that having been said, so much more is available for the M&PA in HO than N.

Very true. Although doing anything in HO feels too much like cheating because it's too easy.

Dood...  You can still use RTR stuff without "cheating" because when you do the M&PA, the scenery is going to make it the iconic M&PA layout.  Most of my interactions with the M&PA with my dad were in winter or the mud season so to me your NCRR layout already reminds me of the Pennsylvania division of the M&PA.

If that's cheating, I'm cheating like hell on my RGS...and I don't care, because I'm not out to prove anything, just out to have fun.  Consider approaching it that way.

But a lot of them... they probably all add up to a typical home layout. :P

Oh, wait...

I just keep coming by here so I won't miss the notice that Ed is ditching N scale and going to .... whatever. If Ed's biggest talent is scenery, then he could be happy with Lionel since the trains are just a reason to build scenery.

I remember when a lot of that was scrap wood in your garage in Cambridge.  You know, the garage with the broken window, and it was snowing inside.  I honestly thought that I wasn't going to survive the drive home in that storm.  Where'd that weather come from anyway?!
