I've been following this thread and others on the various subjects of 3D printing for several weeks...AND...I'm hooked!  Gonna order my Anycubic Photon early in January and get several projects I've had sitting on the back burner finished and out there...

Way to go TRW! ...an absolutely invaluable resource!

It's not everything but it sure has a lot to offer.  A LOT!  8)

A resource that you have contributed to in spades.  You've certainly been helpful to many of my efforts helping me to equip my tool bin for the small stuff I never had to deal with in the 1:1 world.  Thanks.

So I thought, being so small, I could omit some of those door panel details, right? Nope! These 3D Prints show incredible detail, which in turn reveals the lacking details way too easily!
These are great problems to have! :D

So my Netfabb trial ran out and now it won't even open. Thought it still worked, but without all the features. Without Netfabb I'm screwed.  :|

Well somehow it let me have another 30 day trial.  :?

How consistently does it print things the same size?

Like, if I want to make multiple parts that fit a commercially produced passenger roof, and do this multiple times (ie, to make several passenger cars), could I do it?

I started a thread in the regular Z&N heading asking about etched links for link and pin couplers.  Meanwhile, I just printed those cars in this new machine so... why not the links?  Thought I should paste that reply here.  It goes to delicate feature printing:

I printed about 50 links last night.  .026" x .14" opening x .015" wide and .012" thick.  :o  They are amazingly strong and afford some flexibility.  Next is to try the pin, probably just a ring head with .01" wire inserted with CA or maybe try some resin and post curing.  We'll see what works. 8)

I still have to fool with the links as they didn't print with 100% success rate.  I lost about 10% of them, my first total part failures.  I had a few with pin holes on very thin walls.  Maybe how they are supported or even the angle printed and maybe even increase the exposure time, affording more strength... but maybe making them stick. :|  So far they were just vertical.  Experiments and learning.  The ones that printed were flawless.  I still can't believe they actually printed and really held shape.

I'm also going to way overcure some pieces to see what, if anything, there is to the story about pieces becoming more brittle over time.  I'm not convinced that it's really that bad and it's not even close to the difficulty with brittleness in FUD.  At least not from what I've seen this far.  I would really like to be able to print these and not paint them, being concerned about that supposed embrittlement issue.  We'll see.

I also have some flex resin that can be mixed with standard resin in amounts to satisfy the desirable degree of flex.  I haven't experimented with that at all but suspect there's a way if this doesn't prove useable.

And the pic with a piece of .010" wire for size reference:

:o  I printed a loco boiler yesterday that I already had in FUD and man this resin is sooooo much stronger than FUD. I wonder if time will change that even if the parts are painted.

The links and pins printed, much to my amazement. :o  .015" diameter pin, 4.8" (.030") lift ring inside diameter.  The strength also seems adequate just tugging on the string. 8)  I'm still having a hard time believing this.  :)

They're sitting on a fingertip in this pic:.

I assembled them and tested turn radius on the world's tightest manufactured turn, the Rokuhan 45mm (1 3/4") radius.  They roll through fine and could do tighter if I made it. :)  That might actually be useful some day on hidden track on a mini layout. :|

I colored them with a paint pen (sloppy) to get some quick pics of them assembled to the first cars.  The cars are the longer version.  The shorter version isn't stripped from the bed and baked yet.  And:

BRAVO!  Very impressive.

I have the feeling this printer will be better for tiny things than large.

I don't know but for the foreseeable future most of my stuff will be small, not a lot bigger than this stuff.  So far it's been pretty excellent. 8)  Chris has done some larger stuff and might have a sense of what to expect as the size goes up.  Although I wouldn't expect much trouble with the machine or process from what little I've seen this far.

How consistently does it print things the same size?

Although I can't confirm it with a caliper,  I assume that since it uses pixels on a screen and presumably the same pixels light up each time, I'd say probably yes it is consistent.

I don't have any news from my end on any projects yet.  Unlike the rest of you I don't have any drawings already done to test out so I'm starting from scratch.   I'm about 90% done with a correctly proportioned END fuel tank and about 25% done with a Korean war era hospital car.

@Chris333 Here's a shorter version for comparison in the string.  Is this closer to what you had in mind?  I like them both. :) Proof will be in the performance but I'm thinking either one will run fine.  And if the shorter version runs well I may go with it but won't hesitate to use the longer one if that's an issue.  They were really made in a million varieties and capacities so I'm not sure as a generic tipper that there really is a wrong one.

I've made about 20 of each but haven't set up to give anything a proper paint job.  Still playing with minor edits and adjustments, especially with the links and pins and the slicer.
