At any rate. Just for fun I uploaded a set of 4 trucks to Shapeways and it was $30.00 in FUD. Some of that might be because of 4 separate pieces, but it was still pretty costly compared to a bottle of resin.

Here are some S scale trucks that were supported from the car. They just put "arms to the sky" to model them, but there is still a support under the axles to hold them in place.

I thought it had more to do with clearances between the top of the truck and the car body, especially allowing for truck swing.

The support bar is actually fairly low--it bends down in the middle, and should clear stuff. But, who knows. There are lots of different prototype configurations.

Although HOn3 and On30 trucks I have also use supports under the axles for the brake beams. My idea to do it came from HOn30 Shapeways trucks that I've been using. Here a passenger car truck does have a beam attached to the trucks for the brakes to hang from, but they are not attached.

Update!  I have success!  Made this yesterday. My poor phone doesn't do it justice, but I now have an N scale Delorean.  The one on the right is the first one and needed more supports in the front.

ALL OF YOU, STOP THIS! It's making me want one too much and I know that even if I get one, I most likely will not take the time to learn the 3D software and I'll never use it (just like my old Alps printer that I got to print white decals).

YES! CUT IT OUT! I swear, there is way too much modeling goodness going on here. I it wasn't that my most pressing modeling need in the near future is structures, I'd jump on one as well. As it is, given what I was shown over the past weekend, the mouse button is but just a few clicks away from a filament printer to solve that particular problem.

OK, now that you have this, can you please go about ten years into the future for the new, affordable 3D printer that outputs a fully-finished version?

Today might be the first whole day I didnt print something

Wondering if any of you also have FDM printers?  I'd be curious if you'll fall into the same trap I have since getting your Photon.  I got my Photon in May, and my poor FDM printer hasn't been used since.  Kinda feel guilty about it...lol  The FDM is good for bigger print jobs like structures while the Photon can print all the details to give it life.  Problem is even after six months I'm still trying to see how far I can push the Photon!

I caught a minor cold which kept me out of the basement the past two days.  But I'm back to it and going all in!  50 ft Coal Gon with full rivet detail (inside too!).

Oriented flat because I rushed things and forgot to angle it.     With that, I give it about 60% chance of success, but still 100% chance to learn something!

does running it flat [instead of angled slightly] actually reduce chances of success that much ?

 I still have 4 of them set up, but 2 of them are going out into the garage real soon. I'll keep my favorite 12" set up to print stuff like servo brackets and wire keepers and stuff like that, and the one 8" that is set up with a .20 nozzle might go later if I don't see a need for it.
