I had some time tonight to finally give the Dry Bulk Trailer a go.  With the complex underside, I had to spend about 40 minutes placing supports.  And once I finished placing the last support, I clicked to orbit around and review everything, and Netfabb crashed.     

Nonetheless, I powered through it all again and ran it to the printer.



I went through the second round supports a lot quicker, and knew ahead of time I was risking too-few supports, so I didn't have high expectations yet.  Surprisingly, I got a failed success.  Failure, in that some of the supports did fail and part of the tank scrunched up, but successful in that the hose detail was not the reason for failure, and the hose detail is all there!

I have version 2 with improved supports running now.  If it turns out to be completely successful, well, then CGNScale, which has been dormant for about 5-6 years will be going back in business! 

Despite the problems with the very first layer resetting the machine, the print came out fine:

HOn30 ore car that was 5 pieces. Test printed the parts and then I was like why not join them all together.

 Both of those prints look really nice.

So Chris, Jason, and Rodney, now with a few successful prints under your belts; how would you rate usability/experience so far?   

Well looking at my model closer I can see that it's skewed on the Y axis.     Hopefully there is a fix for it.

Is it skewed in the Slicer, or did it skew post print?
I notice the Slicer is quite 'sticky' and sometimes I'll incidentally move/rotate a part just by trying to click on a different setting.  I've resorted to using only the type-input panel to place and orient parts.

You're sure right about the slicer being very prone to accidental movements but that would just make the model lean.  This is actual skewing (the two sides are parallel but not square to the top).  On closer examination, it may only be the front of the hood as the rear seams pretty square.  When I stopped the print at 26% it had started printing this area already.  Maybe pausing did something.  Also, with the front of the hood being solid as opposed the rear being open, maybe the resin curing does something where I need to adjust my build angle.

So I have un-plugged the power cord now for a few min. and tried another print. The second burn of the print shut off and reset the machine. Press play again and it shut of on the first burn. Press play it shut off on the second burn. Press play again and now it seems to be working fine.

It kind of seems like the bed is getting stuck to the film and stressing the motor, but the motor sounds fine and when it re-sets it lifts up fine and makes that "thump" sound of it pulling away from the film.

Also it is saying 4 hours and 20 min again instead of the 2h 56m the slicer said.

So to recap the machine fails the first few seconds and then runs fine for over 4 hours.

Does this sound like I need to open the machine and check the inner USB cable?

Eek, that sounds like a call to the manufacturer. 

I've not experienced anything like that, but read a few known issues with the USB guts.  Not sure how that would be related to shutdowns though.  Maybe a firmware fix?

I'd go for contacting the MFG before opening the guts, or possibly an exchange from your retailer.

 I started a print last night and mine did the exact same thing. Resliced and reloaded on USB stick and it did it again. That time after it reset and restarted, I pressed print again, and it started printing. Hope yours will do the same.

Do you have the "off time" set at 6.5 in slicer??? if not, the slicer will give false times. 6.5 is the minimum time that it takes the "Z" axis to cycle after exposure. 
 


 (edit) print failed. The last thing I did before it started this was I re-leveled the bed and the paper was very snug. I re-leveled the bed, checked the UV light and I just now started another print. It's up to 4% now, so we'll see in 4 hours if it is printing again.

I have the off time set to 1.5. That chart I posted on page one with all the resins, most all of them are between 1 and 2 seconds.

Well just tried again with a different file and it stopped and re-set 5 times in a row. Guess I'll clean it all out and do some snooping around.
