HELP - Kato Coupler Assembly

Does anyone an illustration showing how to reassemble the two parts of Kato coupler?   Or can you tell me which part goes in the pronged thingy (technical term) first ?

You have to assemble the two coupler halves to each other before assembling the coupler to the "pronged thingy" (aka "coupler clip").  If you're dealing with F units, the final assembly takes a bit of practice to get it right, especially if you have clumsy large old fingers.

The coupler halves go together similarly to the MTL couplers. There is also a little tab that has to interlock between the halves.  When you put them together, they should just fall in place.  Or by "2 parts" you mean assembled coupler (consisting of 2 parts) and the clip and spring which holds the coupler in the model?

I mean the two parts of the coupler itself.   I took the front coupler assembly off of an F40PH and removed the clip so I could dull coat the plow without gumming up the coupler. In the process, the coupler came off the clip and the two parts separated and I  have not been able to successully reassemble them.

Hopefully this pair of photos helps.  Insert the smaller coupler part into the slot in the larger coupler part until the post holes line up.  Then place the assembly on the post in the coupler support bracket.

LOL!  You have bad eyesight and work on N scale couplers without  bright lights and Optivsor (or some other lesser brand headband  magnifier)?!  I wouldn't be caught dead without using either one.  This stuff is tiny, man! 

If you mentioned earlier that you are doing this almost blind, someone would have posted some closeup photos earlier.  Just kidding Ed - I'm glad that Gary came through with the photos.

You'll still need some 3.25 or similar reading glasses and good lighting for the close up N scale work.  That said, with those 3.25's after surgery I saw markings on N scale equipment that I had never seen before.

Wife getting both done in December.  You mean afterward, she'll be able to read phone displays, newspaper headlines and a clock without her specs?  That will be wonderful.
