After setting up Marsland to do some re-work, I modified a figure to look like a stagecoach driver.

Next started to add some luggage but getting ready to glue everything in place, apparently I decided I needed a bigger challenge; so while trying to take a quick reference pic, I dropped my phone right on top of everything.

After a few minutes of cursing didn't help, I picked up the tweezers, somehow found every broken bit, and successfully put humpty dumpty back together.


So after all of that, I'm quite pleased with this one.

I did a thing...... in hon3!
These are the Balboa cars that are like the key imports san juan special. They've been stripped and repainted. More i need to find some decals. Other than this, all I've done modeling wise is install TSC's on more rolling stock.

The Nelson diesel house model continues to come together

A very distinctive feature of the prototype were large, window-hung space heaters whose profiles were readily discernible through the shop windows.  Really these should have been 3D printed but I didn't feel like investing the time to figure out the 3D design sw when I would rather be building the diesel house.  Instead I just cut the heater profiles out of foam core and added a few styrene details.  After painting this gave passable results...











Wall painting and construction continued as well and now I can start to see the building coming into shape...very satisfying!







(Note: the roof vents are simply pushed in right now and haven't been aligned)




And last night on Flikr I stumbled upon photos by Catherine Fisher (Kootenayvolcano) showing the prototype just prior to and during demolition...awesome shots which I tried to recreate this morning...

Anyway, we are now back East for a weekend with the relatives to celebrate Thanksgiving so not much modelling likely in the immediate future...have a great weekend everyone and Happy Thanksgiving to TRW members "north of the 49th"!

Slow nights at the new job have allowed me to do some work.

Badger ACL Pullman blue isn't a perfect match, but under almost all lighting conditions, it's very close. After trying a dozen mixes, I'm done trying.

That engine house is incredible!  I spent a little over a week working in the BHP engine house in Port Hedland, Australia inspecting locomotives last summer and your engine house reminds me a lot of that one.

Agree, this should be a Best Of thread.

thanks for the kind words all...a little TRW love makes for a happier world!  However there are still a number of risks to overcome, the chief among them being final assembly of these large assemblies where design errors and tolerances will be uncovered!  These risks really are to be expected given there have been so many different design tools, parts, materials and fabrication techniques involved - but I am looking forward to solving these as they come up.

Yep, designed and tested...the associated steam plant model from June/July was the test bed for the micro LEDs, among other aspects of the diesel house, and that weird wiring "manifold" visible in some pictures of the diesel house will feed the LEDs power.  The steam plant also has a goose neck light which was a proof of concept for the half dozen or so the diesel house will need above its entrances. 

This being said I would love to hear your ideas DKS as my plans can always be changed!  Fire away with suggestions please...

My suggestion is a relatively simple one. I use HO scale diesel bells for the lampshades. I just drill them out and insert pre-wired 0402 LEDs. That's it.

I'll see if I have any photos--not sure that I do.
