Problem fixed...
The speaker is like the IMRC SD40-2. There are contacts.

I think one of the spring contacts on the speaker was not in its slot correctly and was not enabled to spring and make contact with the plate under the motor.
The trick is in reassembly. I disassembled the chassis, then checked everything then left the speaker out, reassembled the chassis with the trucks installed. Then pushed the speaker into place. There are lugs on either end that are tapered (1 way). So it clicks into place. Once I fixed the problem contact and enabled it to move, then reassembled and put the speaker into place... Put on the track.. Yay. I have sound. All fixed.

I wonder if this mean that they don't test-run every model at the factory, or is this something that happened during  shipping?

Peteski, on my friends loco the pick up wire was not soldered. A step missed in production.

I wonder if anyone noticed that the "SF" on the ATSF Kodachrome paint scheme is not in the correct location on the conductor/fireman side just like the B23-7s.

And the speaker has failed again.. So the issue I have is intermittent.. Im thinking it probably did work at the factory but seems to be a problem in the connections to the speaker in the bottom.. More testing to be completed.

What would be the correct Loksound decoder for the Silver version to add DCC + Sound?

Hi All!
As everyone knows there were two series of GP-39-2s on the D&H. Both were "Phase !" GPs, but they were not the same.
The 74XX series of GP=39-2s came from the Reading. They were equipped with Blomberg "B" trucks and had the Reading "V" shaped rain gutter on the roof. The fuel tank was also set towards the front. These ran for years in a reading patch paintwork before getting one of several "Dip" schemes, then some were painted into the famous "Lightning Stripes". Some received the evil Guilford Grey.
The D&H purchased the 76XX series of GP-39-2s. These were equipped with Blomberg "M" trucks and the fuel tank was set towards the rear of the loco. Of course, there were no rain gutters.
Guilford "purchased " the 76xx series from the D&H. These ran under the B&M nameplate. When the lease was up they were returned, and leased to the Union Pacific. The 76xx series was delivered in the Lightning Stripe scheme, when Guilford got their hands on them they were repinted into Guilford Grey, and now wear UP's Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Grey.
Because of the RRRR act, Guilford could not take the 74XX series, and they stayed with the D&H. When the D&H was acquired by CP Rail, the 74XX series was returned to the lessor, CSX. On CSX they wore a series of patch paintworks, and all now wear faded "Bright Future" or the newer "Dark Future" schemes.

Hi All!
I forgot to add the roster, so here goes:

The 76XX series was "Sold" to Guilford, and became B&M numbers 351 to 369
The 74XX series stayed with the D&H (until CP Rail) and became D&H 370 to 389, however not all were renumbered. It appears only ten were renumbered

By the way..... here are my CSX patched locomotives.

I LOVE the paint scheme diversity these locomotives add to CSX.
