Tomix just announced the Hello Kitty shinkansen, due in December (I would add a Hello Kitty icon, but there is none...)

Meow!
Not like this was unexpected in today's world of ink jet decorated models.  :)

While the new "full wrap" liveries on transportation vehicles (trains, planes, trucks) are cute and interesting, I still prefer the "formal" restrained but elegant liveries of the past.  That includes most airliners from the '70s era, Amtrak Ph III, Greyhound buses from the '80s and earlier and other similar.

I'm with you, Peteski. Some mornings I don't know if I am stepping onto a MAX train or into a box of mac & cheese.

God help me, I think I want one of these, but I can't read Japanese.  Does the Tomix page say anything at all about DCC compatibility?

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

I couldn't read Japanese, either.  Depending on price and DCC compatibility, I'd like to get one for my daughter.  I can see her running Hello Kitty around her layout.

Even if it is not DCC ready, I can't imagine that it would be very difficult to install a decoder.

nothing in stone yet, but a certain other Japanese model train manufacturer that imports stuff into the US is also looking into doing these...apparently there's some licensing issues that need to be resolved in order to sell them in the US that need to be resolved.

;)

Enjoy!

I'll buy one, although I'd really prefer a Kato version.
And no, I don't have a young daughter or granddaughter to use as an excuse to buy one. It's for me!!

While not DCC plug-in ready, the following post suggests that conversion to DCC for the Tomix models is relatively straightforward:

It's no excuse; I really have a daughter who would like this train:

Right from the horse's Kelley's mouth!  :D
Will the model be produced by that unmentioned company, or will they import Tomix models?
Sounds like this is a problem similar to Tomix's Thomas the Tank Engine.
