The good news is that there's a mirror: http://passcarphotos.rypn.org/

This tread should be pin down.

Or maybe even moved to the Prototype Research Links or Model Railroad Links sections.

While Web archive is an alternative, it is not perfect. I hope that someone is able to preserve the original website.  It was an incredible resource used for reference by both, modelers and manufacturers. I wonder if any of the model RR manufacturers would step up and host it?  Just throwing it out there . . .   @Shipsure , @Atlas Paul , @scaletrains , @rapidotrains , @Bluford Craig  , @nightmare0331  ?  Or others?  I know it would take some doing to get the contents moved to another site, but it should be possible.

yep, know that, we worked together on a bunch of projects...we even gave him a recognition for all the help he gave us a few days before he passed.  I figured at some point the bank would stop paying the fees per the family?  Just wondering if anyone knew if a new caretaker was working on it.

However, this mirror (and even the original site) are only so good as the links within.  Once those links start breaking, with no one maintaining the site, it will start to fall apart.  What a shame.  Jerry worked so hard on his websites, which are such a treasure trove.  :(

Well, I was hoping for a more stable hosting location.  Maybe even permanent. But then I suppose that nothing (except for Spam, porn,  and advertisements) is permanent on the Interwebs.  :x

This is true, and it's sadly a core problem with the way he did the site. It relies on all of those links to work.

If someone wanted a fun programming project they'd take the existing site and setup a tool that would go fetch and cache those images, then use the cached versions if the originals went dark. Of course you'd also want to include some sort of DMCA statement on there too indicating a removal option.

It'd be a fun project. If I didn't have too much to do already I'd even want to help.

A friend and I are still trying to pull something together to support it - but money is the issue. We've been in contact with his family member who is in charge and that has been hmmmm...interesting.

A suggestion from the UK.  Couldn’t the nhrs be involved at some point? They run a grants program http://www.nrhs.com/news/2018-nrhs-heritage-grants-awards

Is anyone on RW a member and could put in a word for such a key resource?

Since it's a "Railway History" site, it would be a natural for the NRHS to take over.
