Mainline Hobby Supply Open House & Layout Tours Sept 15-16

In a mere 2 1/2 months, it will be time again for Mainline Hobby Supply Open House and Layout Tour event, this year will be their 29th year.  Sept 15-16 are the dates.  10% off sales storewide and a self guided tour of area home and model railroad club layouts.  Most are within a 75 minute drive of the store and many will be open both days.  Most years involve between 20-35 layouts between the 2 days, and they've already started signups for this year, which include a few new ones to the tour.  Layouts cover many scales from N to outdoor/live steam.

Can't be two places at once...heading to ops session in Bethlehem on Saturday. Can you photo and copy to this thread the schedule after it's out so I can look at what I might be able to do on Sunday if I'm so inclined?

Jumping in here to let the group know that the layout tours are sponsored and managed by Mainline Hobby Supply. While we all like to see layouts, part of the goal is to support the LHS and that is why the store has you come to their location to sign a release, pickup a tour book, and hopefully do some shopping while you are there.

I know Adam would like to help you, but he is not able to copy and distribute the tour book for various reasons.

Distance is certainly a problem and we all have to make choices with our time.  I, too, am unable to attend this year due to prior commitments - would really like to see the three WM layouts in the Gettysburg / Blue Ridge summit area.

Thanks,

Ron (former Mainline Hobby Supply employee and layout tour host)

Couldn't the shop at least post some basic descriptions (such as scale, prototype railroad(s), era, approximate size and maybe a photo) for each of layouts on the tour?
That might help someone to better reach a decision if it's worth making the trip to the shop, picking up a copy of the guide book and then taking the tour.

Excellent suggestion; that may be something they can do next year.

Any reccos for cool food places in the Blue Ridge Summit or surrounding area.  You know, donuts, subs, over stuffed sandwiches and the like.  The kind of food porn things Ed posts from his railfan jaunts.  I'll be coming from Winchester, VA area.  Mamma & I need a day away.  I hope the weather is not too crappy.

Red Run Grill in Waynesboro is great !  If BBQ is your thing, Frontier BBQ in Carroll Valley (not sure if open this weekend) or Chubby's in Emmittsburg (pricey).  Numerous eateries in Gettysburg, all kinds of foods available

What are the hours for each day?

Store hours are 9am-5pm on Saturday and 12pm-5pm on Sunday.  Layout openings vary on Saturday and Sunday, with many opening between 10am-lunch, and closing between 4pm-8pm.  Some Sunday openings are shorter, opening later and closing earlier.  20 layouts are open on Saturday, 18 are open on Sunday.  There are 5 model railroad clubs opening their doors, while the 20 other layouts are in private homes.  There are 13 HO layouts, 4 N scale, 8 O scale, 3 G scale, 2 S scale and 1 On30 layouts.  Obviously, some locations (mostly clubs) have multiple scales for viewing.  Given the location, heavy focus on WM, B&O, C&O, Pennsylvania, NYC and Chessie System, as well as a Milwaukee Road, CSX (mine, and I think only "modern" layout) and the Colorado Midland sprinkled in.  There are 9 layouts that are Freelance home roads, with various interchange/thru trains running on the layouts.
