:x :(, I recently had a similar issue with decals from them. My favorite line was from  :tommann: : They look like they're printed on denim!

It's a real problem. I had just been planning on ordering more decals from them. There are so many useful ones listed, but if they're all denim I'll need to reconsider it.

What's the story with the trucks on this good looking model ? One's a Kato made and one's an Atlas one ?

They're not all like this, but it seems any recent releases or reprints have the issue..

I purchased these probably 8 years ago, I just haven't gotten around to using them before now.

A few weeks ago I decalled a pair of B&M RDCs. This weekend I made a photo-plank so that I can take better photographs of my models. Everything was going great until I looked at the pictures of my computer. The printing of the decals is quite obvious and rather distracting. Back to the drawing board.

That looks like a printing artifact of halftone CYMK printing on Alps printer (assuming that these are printed on Alps printer).  One way to tell is to try to scratch the ink off with your fingernail. If it scrapes off easily and has a waxy consistency then it is Alps ink.

There are tricks that can be used on Alps to get solid ink coverage, but B&M Blue is difficult to achieve on Alps.  Microscale makes deals with the correct sized B&M decal logo but it is all white.  I have actually taken a small brush and hand-painted the "B" using Floquil (or Scalecoat II) B&M Blue paint.  I have yet to apply them to my RDC models, but the decal looks decent.

I don't see anything obvious other than a great looking model . In the voice of Gary , " Whatschoo talkin' 'bout " .

I took a day of leave today so it's kinda still my weekend...

I was busy!  First, I received my Monster Modelworks kits for the Placerville, Colorado garage and store.  I spent quite a bit of time detailing the stone finish (and not 100% satisfied yet).  Also busted out a quick Walthers kit that looked pretty close to the Placerville post office.  Photo printed curtains (from LARC) and a photo tarpaper roof made it a quick go.  I'm arranging Placerville to be a little different than the prototype so it'll fit my space.  It'll also put the Monster structures right up front where they can be seen.

On the subject of Placerville I got that beautiful laser kit from Narrow Gauge Colorado for the Placerville depot.  It wasn't cheap but holy crap, it's amazingly detailed and well-engineered.

Also, as much as I want to start running trains, I first have to lay track, which means I have to build trestles.  So the rest of my weekend was devoted to scratchbuilding RGS Bridge 45A, the long Ophir Loop bridge.  I made it roughly the same height as the prototype but compressed in length.  It ends up looking taller than it should, but I kinda like it that way!

The finished product:

Cain't wait to handlay individual ties on that deck!

The blue B is very stripey.

Took a couple photos of FVM/NSE's UP1943 SD70AH "The Spirit" first paint sample. Matt says a couple of minor tweaks and should go into production and available in a couple months...

Nice stuff everyone!

I'm a-workin' on assembling a reasonably accurate Conrail train for my Stockton Branch.

Thanks!
Aside from a little weathering, they are the trucks that came with the model. This is an Atlas/China (2004) model, FWIW.

I'm not an expert with printing decals, but since the background is solid white, you might be able to print your own using an Epson printer at maximum resolution on white decal paper with better results.  I don't know for sure, but it seems to me right off the bat, that it could work...and eliminate the striping in the blue.

The reason I suggest an Epson printer, is that in the Artisan series, the inks are waterproof and archival quality.  Maybe some of the other companies make printers that are equally good, but I only have experience with my Epsons.

Just sayin'   :D

Cheerio!

@Jbub brought the Railwire Traveling Baggage car to the NSE Convention and made a good story of traveling the layouts there.  Check out the journey starting here.

I caught a piece of the action with the Burlington local slowing into Marsland.

Built a B&O freight house based on a plan book I got at railfest in Kirkland ohio, going to do signal tower next. I'm going to apply a B&O and Chessie sign to these and then paint and weather. The roof will be tar paper so I'm looking up techniques for reproducing that one guy uses painted toilet paper and sanded grout.
