Never heard of this.  I was actually listening to quite a variety back then.  My brother was into hard core punk rock, reggae some other stuff in between.  I listened to some of that along with what was considered alternative.  There were a couple of decent radio stations playing that kind of stuff in the early-mid 80's.  WPRB out of Princeton U was one of them.  I think there was another FM station out of  Long Branch, NJ, but I don't recall their call letters.

Damn, that makes me feel older than dirt. "Oldies" to me are 50s tunes.

Anything pre-WWII is what I consider to be the "Oldies" but then again swing and big-band stuff is ingrained in me to a degree from hearing a lot of it at WWII living history events.

Why the hell would you call them that?
I had never heard of anyone ever referring to the swing era ('33-'47) as oldies.
I always understood them to be 50's, 60's, and 70's, but I took to Wikipedia for a more precise definition.
In the 1980s and 1990s, "oldies" meant the 15 years from the birth of rock and roll to the beginning of the singer-songwriter era of the early 1970s, or about 1955 to 1972, although this varied and some stations chose 1950–1969.[citation needed] After 2000, 1970s music was increasingly included,[1] and early 1980s music is beginning to also be called "oldies", though the term "classic hits" is used to distinguish the "new" oldies (the Generation X oldies) from the "old" oldies (the Baby Boomer oldies).[2]
Oldies tunes are typically from R&B, pop and rock music genres. Country, jazz, classical music, and other formats are generally not considered oldies music, although some of those genres have their own oldies format (for instance, classic country), and a number of songs "crossed over" from country to Top 40.

Very much so.
I wish I could start on my house right now instead of digging in the middle of the freaking winter. Foundations cost so much more when it's cold outside... and muddy... and snowy!

Yes, at long last. But even with the funding to press forward now available, there are always forces working against me. Right now these include the weather (weeks of rain) and JCP&L, a company with zero interest in supporting their own customers--indeed, they actively make our lives miserable.
