The "aged plywood" is superbly modeled - very realistic!

I agree.  That really stood out and made this model "pop"

@David K. Smith - Any particular tricks / tips or techniques on how you did this?

The aged plywood effect was done by making a very thin wash of India ink plus a tiny drop of red-orange gouache, which gives the wood that "sun-burned" look. I'll apply the wash to the microply over and over until I get just the tint I'm looking for--anywhere from one to six or eight applications--and often I'll apply it unevenly. Also, sometimes I'll use just an India ink wash with no gouache for a little variation. In some cases I distressed the wood a little by dragging a knife blade over it before it was dry.

I'd avoid the beercan tank cars. They're a bit cliche.

Corn syrup cars, on the other hand, are about the same size and much nicer looking.
Plus... in Morrisville there's a branchline from the NEC to a huge corn syrup plant.
