What other -sshats are going to the convention this year? Myself another Club member from the Houston N Crowd Alan Melton are driving up after we pick up two Aussies at the Amtrak station and rail fan the BNSF across New Mexico and Arizona. We are going on the Golden spike and Heber Valley tours. Hope to see some of you there!!!

Sorry Gordon ,Not coming over again this year. My wife has retired and we spent a month away travelling over Tasmania and have
a trip on the Ghan coming up in September, travelling from Alice Springs to Darwin with extra time in both locations.
Both are locations we have not been to before so its a new experience for both of us.   Not much time on the layout either.

Enjoy the convention and your Aussie guests

Jim

Jim,
Great to hear your wife has retired, maybe some more time to travel. Have seen several shows about the Ghan, when I make another trip down under it is on the list. Hope you have a great trip in September. Have been very busy since the Harvey storm, so no work on the layout either, just an op session every other month. Mal Risby and Steve Walker are headed over and are in Cali now at the two big passes. Have a fun pre / post trips planned lots of rail fanning and a couple train trips. We will miss you. Gordon

I will be out in Salt Lake City next week.  Looking forward to the tours.  Also hope to catch some local railfan action.

I'm trying to figure out if I can make it. I should be able to take the time off but haven't looked into any lodging. What have people found other than the convention's Sheraton?

I will be knocking down those pins hopefully.  Maybe not as many as you but I will give it a Wisconsin try.

Ryan, check out the places near the airport, too. Not that far away, and lots of choices. There is a Hilton Garden Inn nearby as well, plus some others.

Oh come on guys, check out the Grand America. www.grandamerica.com.  It's only a couple blocks from the Sheraton and the Salt water pool is wonderful!
Luckily it's only supposed to be in the high 80's next week. It's supposed to be high 90's and windy for the next couple days. I HATE hot wind!!!!!!!

I'm curious though about the rail fanning guys, where are you planning on watching the UP pound the rails?
