Dealing with matte medium white residue

So, the module my dad and I were working on last night has experienced somewhat of an issue now that it's dry: there's a lot of matte medium residue visible.

Are there good techniques for dealing with this stuff? I'm hoping it's something like the Dullcote/alcohol thing.

This happened to me once the Seaboard Central 2.0.  I think I ended up applying another coat of scenery materials to hide the damage and going back to diluted white glue or WS Scenic Cement.  No more matte medium on my layouts.

Don't know how to fix, but Dave Frary told me to decant the bottle to get some of the talc out.  (before using)

That is strange, I have not had that issue before, but I agree the solution is to cover it up with some more scenery material.

This. I gave up on matte medium quite a while ago as well.

An experiment: in one small area, hit it with Dullcote/Dull Cote to see what happens.

Interesting. I can't say that I've done a lot of ballast... yet... using matte medium, but done enough so far to know that I'm really happy with the results and was planning to go whole-hog with the technique pretty soon. I've had no issues at all with talc clouding.

Which leads me to ask what brand of medium are you guys using? I've been using Liquitex diluted 4:1 with distilled water. Next order to Blick's, I plan to pick-up some Vallejo Acrylicos medium and one other premium brand to see how high-priced spreads behave.

Mine was Liquitex, which, if I remember correctly, was a lot more expensive than plain ol' white glue.

HAhahahah, that thought crossed my mind. If these modules were set in winter, I'd have NO problem with it for that very reason!

But in summer, sadly, no dice.

I use the Mod-Podge stuff sometimes, not terribly expensive and I dilute the hell out of it and strain it to get the snot strings out of it. Haven't seen any residue yet but I do prefer white glue/water, you buy one of those big containers at Home Depot or wherever, it'll last a decade.

I seem to remember that is a problem with the cheap matte medium, but not the nicer pricier kind (like what Scenic Express sells).

I had the problem with Liquitex, which is a premium brand.
