There might have been slight variations in suspension, but IIRC the basic design was the same throughout the lifespan of VW buses.

The suspension difference between the T1 and T2 wasn't "slight." It was totally different. A T2 could be raised significantly without suffering from acute camber, unlike the T1.

Well, I sit corrected. Should have read the Wikipedia entry before sticking foot in mouth. But that would not have been as much fun.  ;)

The heater boxes wrap around the headers on each side of the engine. Pulling a lever open and shuts them.

I don't have heat because my car is so low the axles hit the tube that runs to the body:

To blow the heat there are hoses that run from the fan shroud to the heater boxes:

Since I took my heater boxes off I had to install "J-pipes" in their place. My car is for summer only so the heat doesn't matter to me. I do have 2 sets of brand new heater boxes though. Guess they are now for sale

Inside the heater boxes there are fins around the exhaust to transfer heat into the air chamber.

These were air-cooled and the hot air from the engine cooling blower was piped into the passenger compartment.

Anyone remember the very first Honda Civics? Air-cooled 600 cc engine. Gearshift stuck straight out of the middle of the dashboard. No AC, no radio, nothing but heat, which was just a vent in the firewall. When you opened it up, it did get warm--and also really noisy. I could lift the rear end of the car clear off the ground. At college, the typical prank was two ore three strong guys would pick up the whole car and turn it 90 degrees in the parking space.

It also got nearly 60 MPG...
