If you foresee using a lot more styrene, you can get it much cheaper through a professional plastics dealer, such as ePlastics. They sell styrene in a variety of thicknesses in 4' x 8' sheets.

Thanks David, living in Australia its not quite as easy as sales in these products are not as high as the USA.
There is some places selling plain sheet styrene which at times has been useful just not sure about Clap Board nor Board & Batten.
I'll do some checking around the traps to see what I can find.
Take care.

PS I did have the pleasure of being at your home many years ago with 3 other guys from down under along with Rick Spano when you had that beautiful N Scale layout in a separate room. We had visited Rick & Linda's house after attending a small N Scale Convention in New Jersey.

Its been quite cold here in Melbourne the past few weeks (whilst we are in the middle of 6 weeks Covid lock-down) however I took advantage of a slightly warmer day on Saturday to do some additional backdrop painting on my Monarch Branch.
This is the backdrop of the town on Montrose.

Rod,

That looks fantastic.  The perfect combination of photography and art for a model railroad.

Its been kinda cold here in Melbourne -0.7 C at 8 am and we are in lock-down for another 4 weeks or more, cannot move out side 5 klm radius of our homes and only for supplies and have a curfew from 8pm till 5 am go figure.
Anyway got some trees painted on the backdrop when it got a little warmer last week.
A way to go yet however happy so far with how the backdrop is turning out.
Being stuck inside working on small projects such as scratch building a D&RGW bunk house, D&RGW telephone booths and have a Durango Press water tank in process (second one).

Great trees Rod, much easier to paint them than to make them out of sticks and fronds

the skill as an artist painting those trees, each on of them, is super
and beyond that, the size and placement are just as superior, perspective and the sense of forest are amazing!
great work!

sincerely

Thank you Gary. It has taken me a very long time to get these to look half decent.
I have watched lots of DVDs on painting backdrops and these sort of trees.
More to do once our weather warms up a bit as we head into spring.

The trees do look amazing, as well as the rest of your layout.
Is there a particular DVD you can recommend?  I plan on giving my backdrop a go with hand painting as well.  I've found a few good videos on youtube but they don't really cover everything involved.

There are two DVD's I purchased many years ago. One is:-  Easy Backdrop Painting Mountains and Valleys. Number two is:- Painting California Foothills and Forests. Both purchased from Pacific Video Distributors (Darryl Huffman) 12020 Old Seward Highway Anchorage Alaska 99515.

I have no idea if they are still available however I have watched them many times.
And nowhere as good as these guys.
Trust this helps.
