GMD-1 order deadline next week

Hi all,

The order deadline for our N scale GMD-1 is next Monday, April 30th. Please get your order in by then.

Full information is here:

https://rapidotrains.com/n-gmd1-relaunch/

So far the biggest sellers are the 1400-series rebuilds, followed by the new run of green 1000s. The lowest sellers are the wacky Cuban units. I think they are neat. There are not many A1A-Bo locomotives around these days.

What would be the reason for that wheel arrangement?

The units were ordered from Canac, which was a CN arm's-length corporation tasked with disposing of old assets.

The Cuban railway discovered that the 4-axle units were too heavy per axle for a lot of their lines, so Canac replaced one truck with spare 3-axle trucks left over from CN's 1100-series rebuild program.

Most of the units are five axles, but there are a couple of 4-axle and 6-axle units as well.

The total number of Cuban orders is probably going to be around 12 so we'll just stick with the one version....

Jason, maybe I will place an order, just to have an unusual loco on the layout!

Is there a Spanish version of Rapido News circulated to Cuba, the Caribbean, and South Florida?

In any case, next time we have one of those "Best Locomotive of...." type threads, Rapido should get an honorable mention or special achievement award for marketing a locomotive that many of us- or I, at any rate- never knew existed (Cuban version, I assume most of us knew there was a GMD-1).

Looking forward to the day that Rapido makes a locomotive that ran on the GTW in 1956 or earlier, but hope the GMD-1s are successful enough to make Rapido think there is a market in N scale.

What's wrong with expressing the hope that they sell enough of these things that they are inspired to make models of other prototypes?

We are expecting the first samples of an all-new N scale locomotive in the next three weeks. But we aren't launching it until our Dealer Open House on June 25th. That should give Dan the time to paint it. It will be full-blown Rapido detail with variations between paint schemes etc.

We have another locomotive we're doing with Prairie Shadows which will be announced in the fall. And we have a third locomotive that is about 99% designed. We're launching that with samples in the fall as well, or at the latest by Christmas.

So no worries - we are committed to N scale. The TurboTrain sales were through the roof. By the time we deliver the models I reckon the total value of the N scale sales will match the value of the HO scale Turbo sales.

In terms of rolling stock, we're making a surprise N scale rolling stock announcement when the models are en route this summer.

I am conscious of the fact that some of our N scale models have taken a long time to come out, so we're trying to wait and only make announcements after we have samples.

Like I was saying at Supertrain, I'm so glad that the Turbo is doing well, the samples you had at Supertrain was gorgeous. Although I was disappointed that the samples were damaged and Inoperative, I was really hoping to be able to see them run on our MRNS layout!

I'm really looking forward to your future announcements though. and I'm still holding out hope for Transition era equipment. I really love my FL9. I just need to find some coaches to go with it now! Also, I REALLY hope that the HO Royal Hudson is successful enough to justify an N scale version also!  ;)

@rapidotrains Jason, would you mind revealing the most popular paint schemes of the turbo based on the orders you have so far? Ive chosen the early Amtrak but I guess the late Amtrak, VIA and CN are likely to be the most sought after.
