Well, we'll see what happens when the cars hit the market, see what the discount is (if any), and make our buying decisions.

I know that China won't allow tooling to be taken out of the country.  Will they allow it to be moved to another factory within China?

I don't like the high prices but that's where the market is going. :|
...  Rapido is the other top notch manufacturer in my opinion (@$59 list currently).
...
(MTL's Heavyweights are awesome ...

AND I wasn't having a cheap shot at Rapido. It's just a reality living on a budget. Magnificent detail, like Exactrail cars (the detail on one got crumpled by a mate with Parkinsons shakes__)

Hmmm . . . if the tooling resides with some company in China (as has been the case with the model RR products molded in China for the last couple of decades or more), then I'm not sure what the exact meaning of the word "owns" is.

Aren't these IP and 'actual' property issues that should be hammered out in the 'trade imbalance' deals/ talks, as if...

For all of you speculating about what Lowell Smith's plans are, here is a tease from his web site.

Nice, but no mention of selling individual undercoated cars.  Yes, I realize that I'm in a very small minority.

Well, given the projected cars, I would speculate that NP, Frisco and MKT fans will be very happy. (And note that the existing NYC 64 seat coach is VERY similar, give or take a detail here or there, to a Frisco-MKT car. They have different plan numbers, so I assume there is some distinction.).

Most of the proposed new cars will be different from what is currently available (I am thinking the duplex sleeper is a corrected version of the car produced by Con Cor), and will offer kitbashing opportunities even if not all of us are modeling the trains he plans to produce.

And a thanks to Lowell Smith for adopting the "proto" and "classic" nomenclature.  This will make it much easier on folks who are prototype conscious, and be a big help in buying decisions.  Hopefully, other manufacturers will follow suit when painting cars of one road in a variety of roadnames.

Yep, 56 seat coaches and fluted side diners makes me guess he's looking at offering cars in the Texas Special scheme. Now if he could tool up the 2-1 obs, the buffet coach and some 14-4's, he'd have a winner. Oh, and get BLI to do a special run of E7A''s for it.

Unfortunately (for Frisco), I am pretty sure the plan 7510 is the (fortunately, for NP modelers) NP 56 seat coach that had lots of small windows.  But the diner and mail baggage noted on the page would be correct for Frisco (if I have the data correct- Frisco is a little out of my realm).  http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?january11/01-19-11/NP586_Coach.jpg

What were the four Walthers pass car types produced? No diner or duplex that I know of.

a coach, 10-6 sleeper and a baggage is all I know, unless you count fluted versus smoothsides
