And the cab swaps will now begin.  Wonder what this will do to the pricing for Athearn dump trucks on eBay?

Now about making some heavy dump truck models suitable for the "transition period" modelers? Say about 1950 to 1955?

The Athearn Mack B is about as close as it gets in good quality RTR for N scale, and those are not cheap, nor particularly early in the period.

Cool, but the dump trucks around here (east coast) seem to have higher sides on the "dump box" - are these common out west?

Why is that? Is the dirt heavier out west?

Seriously, I have often wondered about this.

A lot of it is the work the truck is spec’d for, how it’s spec’d, and the weight laws where it’s intended to operate.

Or the weight restrictions on the roads have as much if not more to do with it.

Finally!

Trainworx had an awesome idea with the build-your-own parts, but I thought execution was very flawed. There was no list of parts needed for specific models. There was no "build your own" site that would use drop down options (like real car websites). I would certainly call myself an advanced N scale vehicle modeler and I was very confused over what I needed to purchase to make a complete model.

At lest this saves a lot of confusion.

I plan on getting one of the DOT orange ones, but is it wrong that I was hoping for pink versions of it as well?

What is needed for these...
Snow plows...front wedge, dual sided wedge and the shoulder( second lane) plow.
Drop in salt spreader rigs that fit in the dump bed.
Could even use a snow blower/auger.

The W900 needs to be on the tri-axle also. Aggregate companies need the heavy haul frame for over weight loads.

A lot of the eastern trucks are designed for coal, which is much less dense than dirt or rock.  Also, many of the eastern trucks have extra axles, which allows for more weight, and a bigger box.  It also doesn't help that many of the local coal and gravel haulers never pass a weigh station, so don't worry much about weight limits...

The T800s could easily have the box extended with side boards, and would look good for a modern Appalachian coal or gravel truck.

Strikes me as odd, but this is one product I will actually pre-order, knowing how fast previous vehicles of this quality have sold out and been hard to find.

Portables.  They get well used here in Central Ohio.   There's a good many dump trucks around here with the rear mounted drop axle as well and 3 frame mounted drop axles.
