The Santa fe big hudson mechanism is coming along finally.
Mechanism:  model power 2-6-0
Thanks @SP-Wolf for giving me the measurements that saved the build!
Valve gear/ cylinders: Key brass Santa Fe 4-8-4
Yes, i took the valve gear off of a brass model but don't worry, i repowered it with a kato FEF mechanism. I bought the key model in non working condition. They also didn't run well anyways.
Im pretty happy with it so far. The valve gear has taken some tiny max styled engineering but somehow still works.

So this is a Model Power 2-6-0, but you put other drivers (the FVM Hiawatha drivers?) on it, and then grafted on the Key/Yulim 4-8-4 valve gear?

Splendid!
I wish you have taken some more "in progress" shots to show how you got it fitted all together.  But it looks nice!

The next step for multiple models is to measure it and then have it all etched  :D

The upside for all of us is that it is a near certainty that within 72 hours of Adam finishing his Hudson, Kato or BLI or who knows, maybe Bachmann, will start taking pre-orders for mass produced ATSF Hudsons.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

Max, it honestly wasn't terribly hard to do. I swapped some linkages from the FVM 4-4-2 originally but ended up going back to the stock key gear. The major with was mounting the cylinders abd then the upper guides and the structure they were mounted to.
Pete, thanks but it want completely to max level work. Maybe halfway to that level lol.

Ghengis, id have to get everything cast in brass as i like the added weight, then get the rods etched.
Honestly, ill probably just buy another key Santa fe northern,  repower it with another kato fef mech, and rob the cylinders from the key model again lol. Ill honestly probably build a proper blue goose after this,  and then I'm done with big Hudson's.
Thomas, i hope not! I need mass produced 380p class santa fe 2-10-2s!

Looking at it again... how's the spacing on that trailing truck?  It looks a little far back from the drivers.  Do you have a drawing that shows how far back the trailing truck wheels should be from the rear driver?

Adam, I agree with Max here, the trailing truck frame is right behind the last driver:

[ Guests cannot view attachments ] You got the wrong Hudson John, that's the "little"one. Adam is building the Big one, the 3460 class.
See plan above. But yeah, the trailing truck does seem too far back...

That's actually a 3450 class 4-6-4. I'm building a 3460class 4-6-4 which has 84" drivers.

It probably is. I haven't done anything with the trailing truck yet. Its mounted where a factory threaded hole is as of right now.
Kinda wanted to make sure the rest was going to work before working on that little detail.

Lol, Doug, it's all relative... The 79" drivered "little" Hudsons were almost the size of the much more famous NYC J's.
The ATSF 3460 class was much heavier and had 84" drivers, one of only four "big" Hudson classes, along with Milwaukee F-7's, C&O L-2 and C&NW E-4 locomotives. That's why I appreciate Adam attempting to build this one on big Hiawatha drivers; other big Hudsons built on ConCor chassis just look too short-legged to me...
Good luck Adam, watching with interest, as my own attempt stalled with the lack of axles... :|
