After several months on the workbench (including the holidays) I have finally finished the Custom Model Railroad's Railroad Headquarters Building.  CMR kits are laser cut acrylic and the panels only have straight cuts on the edges.  When there are angles where the walls meet, such as on this building, you fill the gap with Evergreen styrene rod (provided) and then you must carve and sand it to create the angled joint between the walls--a pain in the rump.  Once the joint is smooth you need to carve the brick line across the joint.  In all I scribed 2200+ brick lines.  Despite not enjoying that part of the build the remaining construction was fun. Paint is Rustoleum 2X Fossil.

Next up on the bench is the new CMR Double Track Lift Bridge.  In front of the bridge is the needle applicator that I use for the liquid solvent (like Tenax).  The bridge is just resting on the piers at this point.

The bridge components are currently in the paint shop getting a coat of flat black before final assembly (including the counterweight and all of the cables).  Here's the bridge that will be replaced.  I only have two weeks to get it installed before it's my turn to host host train club.  If it doesn't get finished the trains will fall into the Chicago River.

Best regards,

Roger

I can't even find where he's put them up online.  I'd asked him to make one a couple years ago (after I finished the elephant car) and he contacted me when it was ready.

Direct order with Chuck Deitrich:  circus@verizon.net   A lot of his kits and built-ups can be found by searching for "JEB brothers circus" as he works in several scales.

All laser cut micro plywood, good fit.  I've added some wire grabs, brake detail, and all that interior work.

In honor of one of my WP modeler/friends, I acquired this Atlas PS-1 car, see below. I know little about Western Pacific rolling stock. Is it a reasonably accurate car or a foob?
Feedback appreciated,
Otto K.

Been a somewhat busy week, this week.  Managed to install some more underbrush along the river front, create some more trees and even start on a Blair Line church kit.  Below are a few pics of this weeks progress.
River Front

Checking the fit of the brick skirt for the church.  Still need to paint the brick.

This kit has actually been a lot of fun to build.  Very easy to put together with a lot of great detail.

Here are the trees I've started in different stages of completion.  Hope to finally get these installed this week.

Also, started playing around with these rust effects I found at Hobby Lobby.  Anyone else used this with good results?

As always, thanks for looking!

The rust shades look passable.

Where are the church goers going to park?

Its a small coal mining community.  They walk from their homes to church.

My dad worked as a freight clerk for the B&O from the time he got out of the army in 1953 until about 1960.  His office was on one of the upper floors of that building, which still stands on Charles Street in Baltimore.  It was built to replace the beautiful victorian brick pile the railroad had occupied up to the Great Baltimore Fire (celebrating 114 year anniversary this month) in which it was destroyed.

His view was over the alley between the B&O Building and the Lord Baltimore Hotel.  On several occasions he witnessed some poor soul who had given up and checked out of the hotel from a window and down to the alley below... :P

When Chessie was formed, or perhaps a bit earlier, the B&O headquarters were moved up the street to a more modern building at One Charles Center.  That building also stands, and is also offered as a kit by CMR.  CSX has no major offices in Baltimore anymore.  Rotten buggars.

David that first scene is gorgeous,

Also the rust is better thatn anything i can come up with- Ill have to buy some.

Two questions:
What tool did you use to apply each coat
Do the coats chemically interact with each other upon application or are you essentially just blending the three?

Thanks for the compliment.

The instructions ask you to apply 2 coats of the primer, 30 minutes apart and allow 2 hours full dry time after the second coat.  Then you apply 2 coats of the iron paint, 30 minutes apart and an hour dry time after the second coat.  I applied these with a standard paint brush.

The final step is to spray two light coats of the rust activator, 5 minutes apart, then wait 30-45 minutes for the final effect.

It says you can apply to just about anything so it should be safe for plastic, wood etc.  I'll probably do another test to try and achieve a less weathered effect.

Here is a link to Hobby Lobby's page.  They also offer a Patina finish set which would be cool for weather copper roofs or piping.

Scenery is still slowing spreading over the layout. Still needs more trees and underbrush in places.
