"The rebuilder, Republic Locomotive Works, suffered two failures about that time, their other premiere project a Cummins powered rebuild that couldn't pull itslef out of a yard let alone cars."

And it is NOT the Republic Locomotive Works that makes and sells N/Nn3 models!  No relation whatsoever, but if you Google the name, you'll get both of them...

Richie, we don't need no stinkin' D/DM30AC's. And didn't SSI tank, after they delivered to MTA? And then some defects found? Now back to the subject. C424/5's would be nice, as Walthers likely won't re-run. FA's, and SW1001's would be nice.

A completely different animal after rebuilding, which took so long it killed one one the rebuilders.  Above the corners of the sides is a completely different layout in regards to the fans and roof panels which would preclude the FL9 model from representing it... save for a foobie... not sure how Jason would feel about it.

Sad really... should have been a pioneering project that would have seen more units rebuilt but as it was it was an example of what not to do when it comes to contracting out work.  The rebuilder, Republic Locomotive Works, suffered two failures about that time, their other premiere project a Cummins powered rebuild that couldn't pull itslef out of a yard let alone cars.  Was an early Cat-rebuilder but decisions made left it without much of a standing... while the name survives its a good bit different of a company compared to what it use to be.

Thanks , I did not know of the modified roof , When used to go to work I would be 2 or 3 tracks away from the Morris Park engine facilities and see them , but from seat level the roof was out of sight .

I think I'd put my money on N scale versions of locomotives they have done in HO, seeing as that is the business model that they've followed up to now.  I would be shocked if they announced an N scale steam engine while they're just working through all the issues of designing and building their first HO steam engine.  But, if there is one company that bucks the trends and expectations, it is Rapido.  The fact that they're even considering three new N scale locomotives is great and it will be exciting to see what they accomplish.

Ok , I think whatever they make will have a Canadian connection .

So Alco S6 or S13 would make a beavers tail go thwack .

The irony of course being that the first HO samples were rejected because the board gaps were too wide.

Did they not do FPA-2s in HO?

I have the LL metal chassis and an old plastic frame LL FA-2 B&O shell to do a B&O FPA-2.  I have done the number change (easy on the Blue and Grey original scheme).  I simply have not added the ALCo steam generator stacks and adapted the plastic frame shell to the metal frame (again, not difficult).  I guess that Rapido is waiting for me to finish mine so that it can issue a B&O in the number that I did.  It did issue either two or four numbers in B&O  (I forget, now).

What if Rapido did a FA-1 with the gutter?

I have one Penn A-B pair and either one or two NYCS lightning strip pairs that I should put on FeePay, since I do not run them much, any more.  It has been a while since LL did these things.

Baldwin road switcher or FM yard goat?

I would be genuinely excited if they announced the C40-8M in N.

Cheers,
