Has anyone had any luck removing the road numbers from the Intermountain SD40-2?

If so what technique/procedure worked for you? Micro-Sol, air eraser or etc.?

I have one that I would like to change the road number on.

Much appreciated.

I would try to scratch the numbers off with the tip of a brand new x-acto #11 blade, no pressure applied, just let the knife do the job, pulling the knife over the number not pushing and it should come off without harming the paint job. Another trick which may work if the paint is very dry and brittle, to scratch it off with the tip of a wooden tooth pick or bamboo shashlik stick (harder). With this technique you push the tip against the paint and it should chip off.

A product I have used for years to remove lettering is ELO (Easy Lift Off). Paint it on over the lettering and let it soak for a few minutes, then remove. Repeat, after a couple applications the lettering will come off using a paint brush. When done make sure you wash the part in warm water to neutralize ELO, if you don't it will keep on working. You only have to buy this once, I bought a pint bottle more than two decades ago and it still looks full.

Jane, Marty and Allen

Thanks for the ideas. I am leaning towards using the Micro-sol option but might have to go at it with a sharp blade. ELO is pretty hard to come by in Canada but I will keep my eyes open if I am south of the south of the boarder in the next while.

Thanks again,

Chris
