Went over and did this bit for him before he added any trees.

Swap the Baldwin domes for USRA, the ATSF cab for a USRA and the six axles for four and it looks like you have a USRA light 2-8-2.  In fact,the MP or RR USRA
light 2-8-2 looks like it would be a good starting point to bash a 3160 class.

Class 3160, Baldwin-Built, 1917-1920:  this means that likely the things were on the drawing boards before the U.S. of A. was involved in the First World War.  Still, to look at it, I have to wonder if this was not the inspiration for the USRA design.

Not so fast, the Santa Fe 3160 class engines were not akin to "light" USRA Mikes; they weighed in with 240,000 pounds on drivers, same as the USRA Heavies, so if anything, it was a model for the heavy USRA Mike.

The smaller, lighter 3129 class was more on par with the USRA lights, with 228,000 pounds vs. the USRA "light" 221,000, although they had only 57" drivers, vs. the USRA 63's.

This may seem esoteric to some, but the evolution of steam was all about weight and driver size, and when either one of these is represented inaccurately on a model, it sucks.
Either way, the Key Mike needs a lot of work to look right...

Very nice Wolf and so typical of the 40's - 60's era small distributors plant. I worked weekend, part time, for a Chevron Distributor in Bernalillo, New Mexico, back in the late 60's - early 70's. I worked at the Chevron Terminal in Albuquerque and delivered tanker loads of light products to many Jobbers & or Distributors throughout New Mexico. Those were the "good ole days" ? ? ?

I've been continuing my cabin fever building blitz this week by completing several structures. First in the engine servicing area, the ash conveyor, water towers and columns, along with the coaling tower have been weathered and painted. All that's needed in this area of the layout is the roundhouse and several shacks for the switch tenders.



Next the ice house needs a black wash to represent how dirty Bellevue yard was in the heyday of steam.



And last of all is a small grocery store that will sit in the area by Wheeling Tower. It has been named after a buddy of mine who worked at the Cedar Point & Lake Erie RR, and was from Bellevue.

Taper a dowel, drill holes, insert floral wire, trim and shape branches....



Then cover with sawdust and static grass as in grove dens video.....

This happened today.

Been there. Now, 3.5 years later, I'm finally past the point I was when the layout was taken down.  I should add the layout is also 30% bigger.  Hope your move goes well and you have trains up and running again soon.

Started building the sawmill for Townsend on my logging layout. I scanned the plans and used photo editing software to adjust the width of the building to fit the space available. All of the wood was stained prior to assembling. The base is complete, and the mill itself just fits after swapping the drive wheel on the steam donkey to the other side.
