Oh... the office roof.  

With that cornice, I was expecting a flat(ish) roof with a parapet wall.  Then cool details like scuppers and an access hatch...

The little hip roof isn't not realistic, it likely would have been added later in the building's history, after the scuppers backed up and the plant manager got tired of water dripping on his head.

Make sure when you paint it that it looks newer than the rest of the building.  Maybe redo the surface in asphalt shingles, or cheap looking corrugated metal that's still reasonably fresh looking.

Then still model the scuppers, but fill them with debris or birds nests!

Um... as it happens, I modeled it quite closely to the actual one. Tarpaper hip roof, just as it is in real life. Likely original, since there are no scuppers, just a plain gutter along the edge of the cornice, with boring old downspouts.

The base is a chunk of 1/8-inch thick styrene (would have preferred to use 1/2-inch Gatorfoam, but I'm all out). I made keyways for the foundation from strip styrene, and added a stiffening bar down the middle.



Next, I'll build up the surface to meet the edges of the foundation around back where the grade is higher, then add sidewalks, terrain, weeds and suchlike.

DKS, this really, really impressive kitbashing, especially considering the limited amount of great brick structures in N scale. All the prototypical annexes really make it look great.

When this is the very best that I can do, it's time to retire from this line of amusement.

So, I'm going to spray the whole thing with primer to hide all of this embarrassment, and offer it up for sale to someone who has steadier hands than I do.

Dave, honestly, that looks like my first pass at detail painting.  It usually takes a few passes with both colors before I get to the finish line.
