Adam, sounds like you need a build thread! Lookin good so far!

Thank you ghengis.
My problem is i don't document nearly as much as i should. Not to mention, i do 90% of my locomotive kitbashes in a hotel room on the road working on the real railroad. I haul enough junk into my room for my 8 days of work.

Nice stuff everyone. Good to get caught up a bit.

Passenger car window tint anyone? Only made a small dent in what needs to be done...

Plus I got the new staging yard in, ballasted and running.  So some nice momentum!

Worked on a bathroom project all day Saturday, but sandwiched in some modeling of sorts on Friday and Sunday.  Photo below is for my exploration of background buildings.  I took this Friday in Ft. Wayne, IN.  Massive and awesome looking GE plant awaiting redevelopment near downtown.  I took shots from all sides, and found other buildings in the city perfect for background paper images.  Working on correct exposure and detail grab on the photos.  Also worked on my soybean plant (Medusa Cement), engine maintenance building (Bachmann) and a warehouse (DPM).  Hopefully will have photos of some of those in the coming weeks.

I've built an American Model Builders generator load kit. It went together pretty easily, although if I were to do it again I'd do it slightly differently. The main issue is that the crates should be made from new wood, but they are laser cut, so all the sides are blackened. I painted everything by hand, it would have been better to use an airbrush. But in the end I'm happy with it. Mounted on a BLMA 60' flatcar.

Jason

While a picture says a 1000 words, sometimes few actual words are needed to make the picture more complete.   :)

Instead of just the photo, could you tell us, in couple of sentences, a bit more about your modifications?
Like where did you get the (dynamic brake?)  fan? It looks similar to the ones on the model, but I have never seen any Kato shells molded in white plastic.  I'm also interested in your technique of for making openings in the shell.  How do you do that?  You seem to achieve pretty tight fit between the hole and the item you installing in it.
That info would be most welcome (at least by  me).  Your modifications do look good.

AMB is "Laserkits" right? Is that a fairly new kit from them?  I don't recall seeing it before.
So you had to paint the raw wood parts with a wood  color paint to make it look realistic?  :)

Never had any complaints.  :)

Basically there are three modifications to be made; adding the dynamic brake, changing the winterization hatch and giving it a freight pilot.

I'm harvesting the DB fan and the pilot from a Kato F7 single headlight shell that I had started modeling to be a M&StL unit.  The shell is actually yellow not white.  I'm also going to save the low fans for a late F-3 conversion on a different shell. The hole for the DB fan was just carefully filed to size to fit the piece taken off the donor shell.  The winterization hatch is going to be more work than I had hoped.  The hatch that needs to be installed isn't as long as the Kato hatch so the white you see is just some styrene to fill the void which now needs to be shaped to the roof line.  Most of that will be covered by the new hatch which I've drawn and need to have printed.  The pilot area still needs to be filed up to the anti-climber and I haven't yet cut the donor pilot from it's shell.
