Until we actually see one with the new chassis, I hesitate to answer one way or the other. Theoretically the trucks and fuel tank should be the same. The motor/PCB interface will be changing, so I am not sure how that changeover will work.
Hi bnsfdash8,your CAB on the SD60e ?........Rainer
wouldn't the sd60e count for that?
The observation car is based on a CNJ prototype that ran on the Blue Comet. Atlas did scrunch the car a bit to fit the rest of the cars. I seem to recall, but am not sure, that the CNJ car is seventy or seventy five feet (at least one of them does survive) while the Atlas car is sixty five. The coach and combine are based on C&NW prototypes, as are the Bachmann, The B-mann open deck observation is simply a coach with an observation deck substituted for a vestibule at one end. Atlas, to its credit, besed its observation on an actual prototype. The other benefit of the observation is that its single window arrangement does make it a good, although expensive, donor for single window car bashing projects.I forget on what the baggage and RPO car are based. Finally, the transition piece. Of all of the track-cum-roadbed out there, I always did like the looks of the Atlas the best. Sadly for me, when I was constructing the Short Creek and Nopedale section of my pike, the transition piece was not available, thus I had to use a combination of Kato and B-mann. Now, though, if I do add any more track-cum-roadbed, I can use the Atlas,
Nice to see more sound offerings from Atlas. I rate the S2 as the best DCC/Sound model till date of all that I've experienced and own and I would really like Atlas to make many such models. C420, Shay, VO 1000..many success stories that Atlas can script.
Oh come on, the only reason you like it so much is because of that burbling sound of the engine. It sounds like it is about to stall! I've heard hit-and-miss engines that sound healthier than the S2! I do admit that they have captured the flavor of that sick-sounding engine perfectly. It is a pleasure to hear that put-put sound running around the yard. The horn also sounds great. It is a winner in my book too.
The passenger cars are available as singles or 5 pack, except the RBMN which is only being made as a 5 pack (they only have coaches and the obs).We added it at the last minute because of the GP30 tie in.
