You could really make a believable Polar Express out of that 5-car set.

Maybe this is where they got the idea for the shortie obs.  Wondering if perhaps this railroad was helpful in gathering data, or is a favorite of one of the Atlas folks. And hopefully the railroad has a gift shop along with their tourist operation, as I can see a lot of these sets going out the door.  Maybe Kato will do a run of RDCs to go with.

At first, I was scratching my head, wondering why the first release would be this instead of CNW or some other major road known for shortie cars.  But after giving it some thought, I think this is inspired marketing.  Any modern railroader can pick up this set and run it with almost any loco that strikes their fancy, as their "tourist" road- it could appear on a Conrail layout, or a short line (as the road is in real life).  So sales are not limited to the 30s-50s era (even though that is how I will use them).

I was planning to wait until I saw roads I wanted or undecs, and I won't be jumping on this, but if they issue these cars under roads that have similar tourist operations in different areas of the country, I could see this as helping to generate the level of sales necessary to support expansion of N scale passenger products by Atlas, so I am going to give the marketing department a big thumbs up on this one.

Looking forward to the passenger cars when they're available in singles.  The head car is almost perfect for a couple Soo Line cars.

I always can swap the weathered body and deck onto the mechanism of a donor undecorated unit.  I've done that every now and then with vintage Atlas units.

Wondering if the sound version will have a scale width hood seeing they will need to redo the mechanism to make room for the DCC and sound components.

I guess a wide hood will fit the new weight, just shim with something to get a tight fit?

My wallet just got absolutely CRUSHED on this announcement.   I need all of the RBMN stuff (passenger cars and GP30) plus FINALLY some stand alone 53 well cars!!!!!!!

To answer the question about gift shops, RBMN does have a gift shop, but its mostly tourist stuff last time I walked in. I do believe they would have offered to help Atlas with any info thou, as they have an every expanding passenger operations and public presence.

The coach isn't too far off either...  :)

The passenger cars are available as singles or 5 pack, except the RBMN which is only being made as a 5 pack (they only have coaches and the obs).

We added it at the last minute because of the GP30 tie in.

The GP30 shell is not being retooled.

@Atlas Paul, will you be offering new frames for purchase to convert older GP30's to sound?

If so, are the trucks, motor and fuel tank also the same as before? Would be nice for an easy swap.
