Hate to say it but maybe folks need to switch to Flickr or use TRW's attachment feature and be done with it.  Far less hassle than what folks are seeing with other sites.

When trying to view the pictures in incognito mode, the first works but the second two ask to be logged into google.

I would go to those two pictures in Google Photos and manually add them to the shared folder and then post them with the new link provided.

Somethings different from when you upload your first picture and then subsequent ones.  Maybe you can figure out what that is.

I will go so far as to say the days of free 3rd-party hosting are over. It seems like once a year or so a "free photo album site" pulls the rug out from under everybody, and I'm not just talking about Photobucket. This is... what?... the third or fourth time Google has messed with us, starting with the Picasa buyout and conversion?

Tom has bought storage and bandwidth for TRW hosting - and is hopefully generating enough click-through revenue to pay for it. So instead of flailing about with Google's and others' bald-faced manipulation of our online behavior, for the members who depend on external hosting, let's use the album ability native to the forum and move on to more productive activities, such as, perhaps, a little bit of modeling? :|

Hosting images here isn't necessarily the best option if you are posting other places.

Except you're only able to view TRW attachments when you're logged on, which I can't be when browsing from work.

Let's be honest, Photobucket was never a reputable photo site.  The only reason they were popular is because they were one of the first.  Still using Photobucket in the last few years is like still using Hotmail.
Similarly, Google still has not discovered their "image hosting" identity.  Expect these issues with Google to continue indefinitely.

What you want is a no BS, upload a file, get a URL site.  There are several options beyond Google and Flicker.  My preferred site is Imgur (look, there's even a button for Imgur in TRW reply editor, next to Youtube).  Your preference may vary.  But if you intend to SHARE you photos, a site more intended for personal storage like Google photos is probably not the best option.

When you upload to your TRW gallery (instead just into the post) then you can share it anywhere.  But I'm not sure that  :tommann: would want the extra traffic that generates.  The gallery is where I now upload most of my RW related images.  You can do that seamlessly while posting a message by using the Add image to post and upload to gallery link above the text editing window.

There are many free photo hosting sites out there (like Fotki for one).  My first one was Imageshack but they eventually converted to paid subscription which purged my photos. Next was the Photobucket (and they failed me too). I'm really glad that I can now host my photos here locally.  I used to do that in the Atlas forum too, and even though that forum has been inactive for years now, my photos there are still visible in the archived posts for as long as Atlas chooses to keep the archive online.   As for Google photos, if nothing else, I dislike and don't trust their mile-long links to the photos and nonstandard suffix. There is something sinister about it.  :)

Hi, Pete -

Any chance you (or someone like you) can send me simple, clear, set-by-step instructions for posting a photo on the Rail wire site? Sort of like the instructions (now probably flawed) I posted for another member on page 5 of the Rivarossi Heavyweight  thread dealing with this same topic? You can cut and paste from previous posts if that saves you time.

Will do. You mentioned that you tried earlier that and it didn't work, but maybe you missed a step somewhere. I'll post it in the Admin section of the forum (and let you know when ready.

Loren, I just finished a tutorial. See https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=42854 Hopefully that is clear enough.

Peteski:  No, I didn't see anything yesterday, just a couple extra blank lines between the captions, which could have been simply pressing "Return" a couple times.

Now, however, if I go back to the first page, all of the pictures are there.  Nothing changed at this end, as far as I know.

Um, I just went back to the initial post and I again see all 3 photos (no changes have been on my computer since last night when I didn't see them). This is really weird!

I think that is it.  When I was repeatedly viewing (and replying to) this post I was logged into my Gmail account (um, Goggle).  I was seeing all the photos.  I then logged out of Gmail, but I was still seeing all the photos. Then I did <SHIFT> Reload in my browser to flush the cached info and fully reload the page containing this thread. Now I'm in the same boat as you - I only see the 1st image and nothing shows up for others (not even the dreaded gray do-not-enter signs).

It is really too bad that Loren couldn't get the local downloads to work - external photo hosting seems to be inconsistent.

I've never had ANY problems with Google Photos.  NONE...and I don't do anything special when I upload or copy the image location and post it here at TRW.  I've never had anybody tell me that they couldn't see my photos, and I've never had the gray screen with the circle and minus sign show up.

I think it's a BIG assumption to say that Google Photos is having problems, or the viewer has to be signed on to Google to see the photos.  If that were the case, then every single photo I've posted...hundreds of them...would be blinking on and off all the time, and surely I would have gotten some feedback that they weren't visible.  That's never happened.

I don't have a clue as to what Loren's problems are all about...I wish I did...for sure.

But, as for me and thousands...and millions...and maybe billions of others...we don't have a problem with Google Photos.

Cheerio!

Since I model the deep South, I suspect google labels those Santa Fe pics as offensive..
