Measurements cane right off the HO version and scaled down to N.

Understood. I think everyone just wants to see how accurate they are.

I get:
.265 wide
.078 tall
.062 thick

I don't have a digital caliper, but I do have an old "read the line' version, and a ruler with all of the conversions on it!..So there is at least a small margin of error....

If those are right then it is real close. 2" (0.015") too long and 3" (0.018") too thick, that is nothing in N scale.

I can go back tomorrow and take pics with the tape measure. Maybe measure how they are mounted to the hood.

I think they are OK size wise. Compared to the proto photo and your model. You need to move them forward till they overhang the front just a hair. Do that and the rear corner lines up with the middle of the first door.

Nice comparison shot!

I think they're good enough to keep. My measurements may include the latches on the side, because the jaws on my calipers are too wide , so the widest part of the box is probably spot on as well...

..and about those latches, I originally wanted to omit them because they super tiny if modeled in scale, but I'm glad I was talked into them, they look pretty good and make it look like this box could open...

What's throwing me of is how far back the bell sits. To look right the hosing must be in line with the bell from the front of the hood, but the bell is so far back on the model that might not work,  wonder if there is a really fine bell ou there?

It almost looks as if the bell is sandwiched between the housings and uses the same mounting brackets as the numberboards.

Miniatures by Eric makes the very part that is needed for this to be correct.

@Chris333 , do you think you could measure the glass dimension, inside the seal? I think I can make the part match up your other dimensions.

I'm surprised that all those locos are not covered with graffiti. Maybe because they are stationary, and in an an out of the way place that not many people will get to see. Simply not worth tagging?

Yes, Chris' pictorial was very enlightening! :D  Speaking of that, you could probably model that interior in scale using 0201 SMD size white LEDs!

As a side-note, I also appreciate the fact that Chris uploaded those photos to TRW, instead of hosting them on some outside photo hosting site.

Ha when I opened the lid I was thinking  "Pete better put 4 separate LEDs in his".

As for the locos. They are out of the way. A few were is primer with the windows covered. And I thing they were sand blasting another while I was there. They are parked all around this steel mill.
