IIRC the MicroTrains 50' FMC boxcar is an early plate B (5077) version. Atlas recently ran a similar car in HO.

Ma & Pa boxes were in full production in '74, and dumped into pool service.  They built them in-house in York.  Not sure whether they frequented the PNW, but what a fun paint scheme!

When per-diem freight charges evaporated overnight with the Staggers Act, they all came home to roost, and there were miles of them stored on the M&P's disused mainline south of York until they could be sold or cut up.

It is a sad mix of Berwick and Pullman Standard features, but without a better option at the moment it's all we have...

Not exactly, its a compressed plate C car to get the overall height correct and compensate for the ride height... coincidentally it lines up pretty good with the plate B cars when lowered...

Atlas makes the 5077 in N scale so that would be my first choice...

It's like they're "excluding" customers! 

Also, a pilot model would be nice to see...Which might generate more pre orders, too.

Based on their past releases it will be a pretty nice car, on par or better then the IMRC 5277 or FVM boxcars.

Few years ago, at the Springfield show, I was at the PWRS booth when the proprietor was explaining to someone else the reasons for their direct marketing system. He is one of those fast-talking, take-no-prisoners, I-don't-give-rats-a$$-what-you-think kind of a guys.  Like a gruff salesman. Some of what he said actually made sense to me in a weird way.  His diatribe went on and on, my eyes started to glaze over and I end up leaving before he finished it.  Whatever his is doing makes sense to him and he sells out of pretty much everything he makes.
Someone should video him explaining his business model and post it on Youtube for all to see and understand.

Add to all that some more expensive but slower shipping from Canada and I'm just not going to bite. I'm sure they'll be great cars and all, but I don't want to be part of some club, and I like to see before I buy....His business model might make sense to him, and I do understand direct sales only, but even Exactrail has started to use popular online suppliers (MBK)to sell their goods that were once direct only...If PWRS could do something like that, they'd likely sell more...But, as they say, not my company..

He doesn't want or need to sell  more!  He prefers producing low quantities of accurately modeled prototypes (in many variations) which are quite pricey.  I guess you can say that his customers are a bit of an exclusive club that strives for accuracy.

Dan is a special case... He has made more enemies and burnt more bridges then you would think possible in this small hobby.

I was good friends with one of the original PWRS "Investors" and basically you are only in his good books if he is making money off you.

When Pete says he doesn't want or need more business there is alot of truth to that... Mind you there was the era of PWRS telemarketers

I see two postings on the Atlas site for the single door 5077s and I don't see two versions. Can you explain the differences?


So what is the Trainman ACF 50' 6" box car? What's its story?
