Glitch on picture posting
« on: August 21, 2017, 04:13:58 PM »
I can bring this image up easily, but when I put it in a thread is absolutely refuses to display.

I'm baffled.

If this works, then check out the PRR small steam thread, exact same image is there but it won't display.

Is it the ampersand that's messing it up with your proxy fetch?

Reminds me of some other memorable character conflicts I've had in IT like a "+" being a page-forward in an application, and wondering for days why if I paged forward three times the old Hayes 5600 baud modem would disconnect....

According to http://www.mtu.edu/umc/services/digital/writing/characters-avoid/  the ampesand can be problematic.
Most of my early computer experience is with the old Unix command line -  Internet pretty much has the same restrictions as Unix command line. I instinctively avoid using those characters in my file names and also no spaces. People who learned computers on Microsoft Windows were spoiled by how Windows handles filenames.

Took the "&" out and renamed it to 'SnT408.jpg' and it works here but not in thread?
   Still baffled.

If by other thread you mean this post then I can see that picture just fine. It is probably some TRW cache weirdness.

OK, kids, splain this to me: why are images hosted on my own domain visible to everyone visiting my sites, but are blocked when posted in messages here?

Did you refresh the page after posting? There is a glitch in the image caching where it caches from external sites with the initial post, but doesn't display. Refreshing then grabs the image from cache, and then Bob's your uncle.

Note: Images linked in my postings are on an HTTP server, not HTTPS. Enable "mixed content" in your browser to view.

There are over 1000 images on this server. Not changing anytime soon.

Bob ain't my uncle. Thing is, others report being unable to see my images as well, so it's not me or my browser effing up.

Yes, I still need to fix that.
