I'm not sure who blinked first...I think we had an MOQ and pre sold plenty extra to warrant an order to the Walthers's Factory...since we were ordering they may have taken the opportunity to release theirs.  I don't know what communications there were or what conspiracy theory we can start here on Railwire...  :)

Joe, does what you stated imply that there were no behind-the-scenes contact between Walthers and MTL to  produce another batch of the mechanisms?  They simply decided to revive this model on their own?  If that is the case, you better get in touch with them and ask to produce lots of extra mechanisms for MTL.  :D

Love the ATSF Zebras!

But, if see aren't DCC ready, I'm out; I already have so many old technology locos on my bench, and don't *need* another project. (I do wish ATLAS would do their S2's in the ATSF "zebra scheme", even the simplified one.)

I have been wanting Atlas to do the atsf zebra scheme in the S2 also. I will buy SW1200 anyway and then if Atlas does bring it out I will just have both, oh darn!

This excites me. I'm impressed that Walthers is correctly releasing the only two numbers IHB had. And I love the EJE units.  I will be picking up all four. I will also pick up a few other iHB's to renumber to represent SW900's.  I have about 6 older LL's that I can now retire as I've never converted them to DCC anyway.

With a bit of wire and kapton tape, you should be able to put DCC in the older LL units too.

The tanks already went to production.

I would estimate that if the handrails are 1", then the pipes would be 1-1/2".
It's interesting that there wasn't really a standard across all class for the number of coils.  I see just about as many with 4 coils in my collection as I do that have 5.

I bent some .012" SS wire with .010" gaps that looks pretty good for now.  Looks like the fuel filler can be harvested from the LL tank.

When I get this all together, I'll start a thread.

Trying to figure out Walthers marketing strategy.  If this was announced at any of the recent shows, it went right by me.  Even given their attitude towards N scale, it seems weird to keep these a secret when you have opportunities for free marketing.  Or, is this one of those ala Intermountain, where they announced it so long ago that we forgot, and it has just now hit the catalog page?

But apparently they not only told Spookshow, he got hold of a mechanism (or is using photos of a MT unit). http://www.spookshow.net/loco/llsw.html scroll halfway down the page for photo of "2017" mechanism.  Looks like speculation here is correct, it is the same mechanism supplied to MT, and uses a DN126M2.

I don't have any inside information (and yes, that photo is an MT unit). But since the Walthers page says that these new SW1200's are DCC-Ready and will accept a Digitrax DN126M2 decoder (same as the MT SW1500), I didn't think it was a big stretch to assume that these new SW1200 models will use the same MT-style internals. If that turns out to be incorrect (or the models never happen at all, which wouldn't surprise me), I'll amend my page.
