Would love to have the open vat car but it is WAAAYY too early for my era.  I might spring for one of the brown coffin cars.  Still too early but at least I'm within a decade or so.

An "MTL truss rod flatcar"?  Other than their Civil War era cars, I didn't know MTL made a truss rod flatcar.  How long have I missed it?

I suspect that they will use one of their truss-rod underframes and 3D-print the rest of the car.

I was going to say that.  It's a lot cheaper, and the parts are real wood.
Yikes... I just realized I have had two brass flat cars I bought at a train show, already assembled, on my workbench for years.  They are lovely cars, and I've been wondering what to do with them forever.  They are short ones, too.  42 footers.
Time to point and click Mr Mouse at the AMB site.

....

...aaaaand... back from AMB... Pickle Car add-on kit ordered.

I ordered 2 AMB kits last night .

Long Island last pickle company was Aaron Stern's , I would like to make a fantasy car or 2 , as was done in HO awhile back .

Shapeways has a N scale open pickle car but I think it is one piece . If you were to paint the tubs a different color it would be a pain to do .

I wonder if the Civil War flat car tubs would lend themselves to pickle car or pickle building ?

A vintage (circa 1970s) wood craftsman kit that was marketed without trucks and couplers, Remington Locomotive Works produced a Circa 1920s Pickle Vat Car as item number N-1003.

I tried to buy some decals for the AMB kit from Jerry Glow before he sold the business several years ago, but no luck. I thought Tichy bought the art work? But he hasn't released it if he did.

What era are these cars they are really cool.

I remember seeing one going around the horseshoe curve in one of the pennsy vignettes videos always thought it would be a net car to have.

Soo Line Rostered the vat style pickle cars as late as 1962, they looked quite different then these cars so likely I will be scratch building 1 or two...

How late did the Heinz cars last?

CG N Scale does a car too, available via Shapeways, but the bracing is very different from the drawings pictured. Those look more like the HO scale Athearn car. Maybe Athearn has secretly stashed an N scale pickle somewhere.

Hmmmm....very interesting.  Looks as if either a tub car or a container car would fit my 1947 to 1957 time period.

I'm going to guess the blurb about the "truss-rod MTL car" is wrong, and the truss rods mentioned in the spec's are referring to the truss rods in the superstructure surrounding the wooden casks.

Looking at the vat car's drawing, it appears the flatcar underneath is NOT a truss rod car, but has a fish-belly center beam, with the sides of the car following that contour.

Can't say that with the casket car's drawing, but it looks like if truss rods are going to be added, they'll be underneath THIS car.

In any case, I'm gonna pony up for at least one of each!

Cheerio!
