Sorry to change the subject, but I noticed that there was a discussion going on earlier in the thread regarding as to what Kato's next "name train" should be. Now, how popular is the Central Railroad of New Jersey when it comes to modeling in N scale? I ask because I've wondered if doing an N scale Blue Comet set wouldn't be all that bad. I mean, Kato has made japanese pacifics before. And while I don't know the exact dimensions of those compared to a CNJ G3, it could be a good place to start should a redesign be necessary. Regardless, I just wanted to see what you guys thought.  :?

(I think) I'd like to live long enough to see that happen.
But, aside from the new Atlas heavyweight cars, this is about as close as we're ever likely to get:

My statement was made in jest, but thanks for the info anyway.

There are Chinese prototypes in the USA

Exhibit A

When compared to the photos of the forthcoming N scale model in the Bachmann catalog, dead ringer.

Looks like I'll be picking up a bunch to repainted for use behind my CMR-Line DF4B.

Ike:  The 60 seat coach and sleepers, as well as a diner, would be nice, but one can get sides for them from Brass Car Sides.  They also have the full dome and dome coach sides, but fitting them to a CC or Bachmann car is much harder than doing the non-domes.  We NEED the domes!

It's just a silver series freight car painted in a Chinese paint scheme.  It's what they do.

Here's the tank car.

Here's the stock car.

Here's the hopper.

Here's another gondola.

Also, the actual Chinese cars come in packaging with Chinese writing (go figure).

While the Silver series Chinese paint cars come in the same Silver Series boxes they do here.

And finally, the N scale ore car is actually a better match to the HO MDC/Athearn car as shown by the left ladder in your photo.

They did the same car in Australian roadnames so it's an Australian prototype

I had a true Chinese prototype photo saved on my old phone, but all I could re-find was my reference for the Chinese cars built for Brazil.

The prototype BHP Billiton ore cars in Australia were made in China.

On the Bachmann Ore car, this site (run by an Australian) thinks it is a model of a Chinese C16 class car:

That site also says the Bachmann stock car is a J2 class livestock car.  Here's part of the review for that car.

Quote
The models' major issue is of course that they are USA models with Chinese lettering that bears no reseblance to a real J2 livestock car.

I see the Chinese at least know to add open slats to their stock car.... :P
Never argue with idiots; they'll drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
