575 jobs will be cut as production moves to Ft Worth plant.

At least it stays in the US

No surprise here. Fort Worth did not fool anyone, was always intended to replace Erie and the higher wages paid there.

Yep. The race to the bottom continues.

I guess they can call the new units eSCAB-44s now.

:D At least the scabs will get a taste of horrible commutes plus rapidly rising housing cost and rent in Fort Worth area, plus hundred degree Summer heat with humidity.

The plant currently employs more than 2,500 people and as many as 575 hourly jobs will be cut.

Assuming the build is small portion of what they do up there in Erie?

Is the Texas plant non union?  That's what Freightcar America (formerly Johnstown America, Bethlehem Car Works) did in Johnstown. Moved work to Roanoke and Illinois and timed it to screw pensions in Johnstown. Also wiped the Johnstown plant off the face of the earth so no one else could take it over as they had done when Bethlehem left town.

Sounds a lot like what EMD did in London a few years ago.

Erie is actually part of the GE Transportation sub-business.  Locomotives was just a part of what they do. They also do off-road earth mover type trucks, marine propulsion, and other things.
